Blaze's Banter
Dark Disability (Distortion + Liability) deck
May 20, 2005

Ok fresh off the heels from one of the 2005 Pokemon Regional Championships around the country this past weekend at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, we are going to take a look at the 2nd place winner’s deck in the 10 and under division.  I happen to have the complete decklist as this deck was run by my son Nick.  Nick went 4-0 in Swiss and swept the next round 2-0 to make it into the finals.  But unfortunately  he did lose 2-1 in the Championship match to a Gardevoir, Magcargo, Exeggutor deck.  Sound familiar? Last week here at Blaze’s Banter, we took a look at a Gardy deck but without the Exeggutor line.  So to see Exeggutor splashed in was indeed a nice surprise.  So on to the 2nd place deck I like to call Dark Disability (Distortion + Liability).

You’ll notice right away that there are only 3 Dunsparce and a total of only 11 basics but in reality it goes with the energy ratio of 11 Grass and 4 Darkness energies.  One of your attackers, Weezing, only takes 1 energy for Liability.  Crobat-ex and Dark Crobat are relatively cheap attackers and with Crobat-ex you get a free retreater to go along with Pidgeot’s free retreat cost.  With 11 draw trainers, yes I include Celio’s as a draw trainer because you are getting a card from your deck and most likely it is to get Pidgeot out so then you can use Quick Search as another draw option, there is really enough to get out the Dark Crobat/Weezing combo.  On to this combo for those that don’t know:

Dark Crobat has a Power called Black Beam that 1x per turn before you attack you can poison the defending Pokemon.  Once you do this retreat Dark Crobat for 1 retreat cost or you can use the Switch trainer card and then promote Weezing as your active and use his 1st attack Liability.  Liability lets you put damage counters on the defending Pokemon until it is 10 hp away from being Ko’d then Weezing does 70 to itself.  Then the poison damage will kick in ko’ing the defending Pokemon.  Then for even a little nastier surprise make sure that you play Low Pressure system before the attack so that this will bring Weezing’s HP to 80 and he is not knocked out by Liability.  This is really a great and cheap way to take out your opponent’s main threat and if it happens to be a Pokemon-ex you are trading 2 prizes for 1 with Liability.

When all else fails you still have Crobat-ex to work with at 130 HP and 2 sweet attacks with Cross Attack and Pester.  Pester also goes hand in hand with Dark Crobat just use Black Beam, retreat and now since the defending Pokemon is affected by a special condition Pester does 100 damage for only 3 energies!!  If that wasn’t enough Crobat-ex has a Power called Distortion that lets you put one damage counter on any of your opponents Pokemon 1x per turn before you attack.  Use Distortion as a Strength Charm or you can use it ko a damaged Pokemon on their bench.

On to the decklist.  Remember that in most cases please feel free to modify the deck to your liking.  This is just a starting point and depending on your metagame this deck may or may not work for you.  One thing is for sure is that this is sure a fun deck to play!!

Well I hope you enjoyed this article.  Good luck to all of you at your respective Regional Championship tournies this weekend.  Unless someone requests something different, next week I’m going to look at the ever popular Ludicargo deck that has been uber popular at the Regionals.   Please contact me at JSChimento@aol.com or AIM me at JSChimento if you wish to discuss this article or any decks.
