Cadet-Captain Mike

Name:    Wiglaf (Vikings)

Card:    FN #002 (Common)

Points:  13

Masts: 3

Cargo: 4

Moves: L

Guns : 3L,3L,3L

Hit %: 150 (S), 150 (L)

Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against the Cursed.

In the epic poem "Beowulf," Wiglaf is a faithful friend of the hero. In the epic game "Pirates," Wiglaf is a sub-average Viking fighting ship.

What a come-down.

Her ability tells us that this ship is meant for battle, but her cannons are strictly average. So unless you know you'll be up against some Cursed ships, you'll find that even a longship will give you more bang for your buck. Considering that most longships are overpriced, that should tell you something. England and France have similar ships (HMS Henry VIII and La Richelieu) for only ten points.

I've owned the Wiglaf for years, and I've never had an occasion to use her. If you're determined to give her a try, the usual Captain and Helmsman crew will make her functional. But she's really just another mediocre ship without much to recommend her.

Goldship rating: 2.5 / 5

Gun Ship rating: 2.9 / 5

Boarding rating: 2.7 / 5

Value for points: 2.6 / 5
