This is Ocean's Edge Uncommons Week, and our first victim is a surprisingly good ship, the Juggernaut.

I say "surprisingly" because Cursed ships tend to be either cruddy or overpriced. This one is almost overpriced and almost cruddy, but she squeaks by. Her guns are above average, so you could add Captain and Helmsman and go fighting with her. Or you could just use the Helmsman and look for ships that need to be rammed and boarded. She'll win most boarding actions; if the enemy chooses to leave her pinned, she can probably use her in-line masts to take two or three shots.

The Juggernaut isn't the only decent mid-priced fighter the Cursed have; they can also call on the Hellfire and Last Hope. Those ships shoot better than this one, while this is the better boarder. If your battle plan calls for a mix of shooting and boarding, this isn't a bad way to go about it.

Buckland

Name: Juggernaut
Masts: 4
Cargo: 3
Speed: L
Firepower: Two 2L’s, one 3L, one 4L
Cost: 14

We begin this week with ships from OE and we start with a Cursed ship. So let’s take a butchers and see what she’s all about. Four masts, three cargo and L speed. Nothing too exciting about that, nor her ability.

Now, I would just put the standard fighting crew on, Get that base move up and a move + shoot and she’ll be good to go. However, if she just had one more cargo space you could’ve made this ship. Helmsman, captain, grapple shot, White Crew, that sort of thing. Then she’ll be quite the crew killing; boarding ship that I think she should be.

Let’s face it, if a Cursed crew member went down the job centre looking for a job. And he was asked what his particular skills are. He wouldn’t say “ooh...ships doctor” or “cargo master” No....he’ll say...”Well I’m a bit of a dab hand at boarding”. The Cursed are a boarding nation and it’s a shame that someone was too tight to give this ship one more cargo. That way this ship could’ve been maximized.

So we’re left with move + shoot and a boost to the base move. I would keep that third cargo space open just in case you grab a coin. Or you could fill it with White Crew, win that boarding and if the target ship has no crew protection then....well...bad news for any enemy crew. Does mean you might end up pinned though, but with those half decent cannon’s she should be able to soften up any target ship.
.
That’s take a look at the breakdown of costs.

Speed – 2pts
Cannons – 4.16pts
