Ability: Native Canoe. Each treasure this ship unloads at your home island is worth +1 gold.

Spain's native canoes aren't quite as good as the Americans' little boats. But they are not bad, either, if you use them properly.

Their speed is decent and their price is good. They can carry only one coin each, but that coin gets a value bonus when you unload it. Don't even think of fighting or boarding with them; these canoes are gold ships. A fun maneuver would be for a bigger gold ship (like the
Buscador) to transfer one coin to each canoe, and let the canoes do the running for home and unloading; the bigger ship can now spend more time at sea, and you'll get +5 gold that way, even if all you find is one-point treasures. Alternately, you can just let them grab whatever they find at the wild island where they start the game, and spend your other points on fighting ships and crew to make sure the canoes get home.

When I say these "aren't quite as good" as the USA's canoes, there isn't that much of a difference. If you can get your hands on these little craft, it may take a few games to get the knack of using them. But, like the Buscador from yesterday, they can easily make you very rich.

Goldship rating: 4.6 / 5
Gun Ship rating: 1.7 / 5
Boarding rating: 1.3 / 5
Value for points: 3.7 / 5
