Ability: Sea Monster, Fear. If this sea creature is
within S of a friendly ship when this sea creature
is given a move action, it gets +S to its base move.
The "Lurker Below" takes the prize for "Fastest Sea
Monster in the Game," hands down. Too bad that speed
is just about all that this sea serpent has going
for it.
Its cannons are good, but not good enough to call it
a super fighter.
Zero cargo means it can't make off with enemy gold
when she wins a boarding action. The ramming and
boarding game is probably its strongest suit, and
even if it doesn't get the extra S move, it's still
quick enough to chase down many gold ships and ram
them to pieces. The Fear ability is icing on the
cake (if and when it works).
The bad news is the 19-point cost. That's huge for
what you get, especially since French ships are (or
used to be) low in cost compared to, say, the
English or Americans. The Lurker Dessous is a good
monster, but too expensive for my tastes.
