Cadet-Captain Mike

Name: Bombardier (England)

Card: FS #014 (Rare)

Points: 18

Masts: 3

Cargo: 3

Moves: L

Guns : [3S] 3L, 2L, 3L

Hit %: 217 (S), 217 (L)

Ability: Bombardier. When this ship hits another ship, you choose which mast is eliminated.

This ship has the makings of a fine warship. Too bad she has only 3 masts, so she can't take a pounding like a "real" gunship can. Compare her to English ships with similar prices, like the Titan or the Leicester, and you'll see why I think this ship is overpriced.

Don't get me wrong; she isn't a bad ship. Her cannons are fine, and the Bombardier cannon can either snipe from long range or burn the enemy with fire shots. Until that cannon rolls a 1 and breaks, that is. For crew, she needs some sort of Captain, a Helmsman, and either a multi-purpose crew like Henry Ducie Chads (SAT and +1 vs Pirates), or a Shipwright if keeping that big gun working is a priority with you.

Thomas Gunn the Younger (Captain and crew-kill) could be a lot of fun in conjunction with the double-range cannon; you can pick off enemy crew from S+S range. Alternately, you could use The Gentleman (Captain and

reroll) with Lt. Chads to keep those SAT's coming.

Remember, this isn't the nastiest ship England ever launched. Treat her like any 3-masted fighter, don't expect her to take down La Ville de Paris in one turn, and she'll do well for you.

Draco Bombardier

Today's ship is the namesake of the Bombardier keyword, the Bombardier. She's the British Bombardier ship. Was that as confusing as it sounds to me?

Anyway, the Bombardier is similar to the Grand Vainqueur, three cargo, a base move of L, and her front cannon is a 3S.

The Bombardier's normal guns are better though, two 3L and a 2L. She also has the ability to pick which enemy mast she eliminates as well instead of the built-in cannoneer.

The Bombardier costs 18 points, so you can afford to place the best crew you can find on her. With only three cargo, she needs the best of the best to be properly strengthened.

I give the Bombardier a 3/5.
