Cadet-Captain Mike

Name: USS Concordia (USA)

Masts: 5

Cargo: 4

Moves: L

Guns : 3S, 3S, 3S, 3S, 3S

Link : Montana Mays

Ability: This ship’s cannons can’t be eliminated (masts still can be).

If derelict, she can’t shoot.

The USA didn't do too well in the last few releases, in terms of big fighting ships. This time around, they finally got something that can fight.

Her cannons aren't the greatest, but they don't stink, either. Her ability could make her very nasty; the enemy can calculate and plan how to take her down, but if he misses just one mast, he'll get all five cannons shooting back at him. In real life, this will probably turn the Concordia into a fire magnet, because the enemy won't dare let her survive. Thus, her life expectancy may be short, which is a bad thing for a 21-point ship.

Her linked crew, the latest version of Montana Mays, gives a move/shoot and crew protection. That means both ship and crew are hard to eliminate. With her high cost, you can afford to put some good crew on the Concordia; in addition to Mays, I'd add a Helmsman, Commander Albert Crenshaw to give her cannons L range, one of the two American world-haters, and an American Eternal crew to protect the huge investment you've made in this ship and her crew. That's about 40 points right there. If that's too rich for you, stick with just a Captain, Helmsman, and the Eternal crew.

USS Concordia is far from the best five-masted ship the Americans have.

But, after so many releases with no five-masters at all, it's good to get anything. This ship is kind of expensive, but not as bad as the infamous HMS Dreadnought with the same ability. By all means, give her a try.

Draco Starcloud USS Concordia

Today's ship is another fighter, this time an American. She's the flagship of the recurring character Montana Mays and she is ready to fight. Montana Mays is a must if you plan to stock the USS Concordia with crew as he will protect them all from danger. Combine with Ralph David or Gus Schultz to keep her in the game for a long while.

The guns are all 3S, making them less-than-ideal for a long gun-battle, which is why having Eternal around is fairly important. In addition to the crew not being able to die under Mays and the ship not being able to die with the Eternal you hopefully put aboard her, the USS Concordia has an extra gun for every mast that gets blown off.

She fares slightly well as she can load four spaces of cargo, so she'll have plenty of room for crew, especially if you bring aboard Montana Mays.

Her base move is merely L though, so she'd better be patient.

The USS Concordia is a fairly average boat overall, but she earns a low score due to her incredibly high price tag!

I give the USS Concordia a 2/5.
