Cadet-Captain Mike

Name:    Virtuous Wind (Jade Rebellion)

Card:    SCS #010 (Common)

Points:  14

Masts: 3

Cargo: 5

Moves: S+L

Guns : 2L,2L,2L

Hit %: 200 (S), 200 (L)

Ability: Junk. This ship may dock at an enemy home island and load one treasure. If able, she must leave on your next turn.

What's not to like about this ship? She has fine cannons, excellent speed, above-average cargo, and an ability that keeps the enemy on his toes, even if you never use it. And she's one of the few ships with the speed to use that ability.

With those 2-rank cannons, it would be a crime not to have a Captain on board. If all you want to do with her is shoot, that's the end of the crew list. An Explorer would be fun if you think you'll grab some doubloons on the way to the fray, to cut down on the time you spend idly anchored at a wild island. And if you plan on using her ability, I'd strongly recommend a Helmsman, to get in and out as quickly as possible.

The only thing not to like about the Virtuous Wind is her above-average price tag. But it's a reasonable price for what you get. With speed, cannons and cargo all well above average, this is one of the best ships the Jades have, and a good ship by any standard.

Today we review one of my favorite ships of all time...the Virtuous Wind.

Virtuous Wind, 14 points, Jade Rebellion

Masts: 3

Cargo: 5

Speed: S+L

Cannons: 2L 2L 2L

Abilities: Junk. This ship may dock at an enemy home island and load one treasure. If able, she must leave on your next turn.

Flavor Text: The crew of the Virtuous Wind built a shrine honoring and imploring the guidance of their ancestors. They attribute their skill at stealing plunder to the helping hand of their forefathers.

Awesome looking ship, and some pretty nice stats to boot, you have to wonder, what the heck is wrong with this beauty? Well, its cost isn't very good. 14 points for 3 masts? Sounds like a Viking ship! Of course, as I said before, this ship has nice stats. Oh, and an ability that makes sense! Whodathunkit? But being a jack of all trades, you need to use this ship to her full potential, or she'll be overcosted.

So, do you want to use this ship to her full potential? I'll tell you how.

Load her up with a captain, helmsman, (yeah, like you have JR captains and helmsmen lying around...) Zheng Li Kwan, and 3 Oarsmen.

Then zoom her around at S+S+L x2, steal from your opponent(s), and shoot down some treasure runners on the way. You need to use those 3 rank 2 cannons! This is a must! Of course, ships that can't be hit by L range cannons are a huge problem here. But just avoid them, if you possibly can.

And dang, I'm so happy that Spain got a hold of a ship. Normally they get crud. I expected this ship to be English or Pirate...

But yeah, this ship gets a 4/5 from me. There is a reason that this is one of the JR's best ships.
