Ability: When touching a Pirate ship, this ship can
load as much of that ship’s treasure as she can
carry.
Here we have another attempt to make a one-masted
ship worthwhile for something other than just
gold-running. Like most such attempts, it falls
short in real life.
To use the Magdalena's ability, you have to be
touching a Pirate ship, which means the Pirate ship
can shoot at you, which means you're in big trouble
if you have just one mast. The only way I can see
this ship using her ability is if she bumps into a
Pirate derelict, cleans out the pirate's holds, and
uses her one good cannon to finish him off. That
would work, but it's a very limited role.
Alternately, you can just use her as a cheap gold
ship. Three cargo and
S+S speed make a decent gold runner. For six points,
she can probably
pay for herself with one gold cruise, so you aren't
making a mistake if you use her. The Magdalena is an
okay ship, not a thrilling one, not a terrible one.
Her best feature is her low cost.
