Cadet-Captain Mike Name: USS Atlanta (USA)
Card: OE #090 (Common)
Points: 11
Masts: 3
Cargo: 4
Moves: L
Guns : 2S,3L,4L
Hit %: 150 (S), 83 (L)
Ability: When touching a Pirate ship, this ship may load as much of that ship’s treasure as she can carry.

As a die-hard American admiral, it pains me to say it, but the USS Atlanta is the worst of the pirate-robbing ships we'll look at this week. Compare her to HMS London, for the same point cost, and you'll see what I mean.

Her cannons aren't good enough for effective combat, and she lacks the speed to do much gold-running, or gold-stealing, for that matter. A Helmsman can remedy the latter defect, but she's still a second-rate ship, and her marks show it. If you want to use an American ship to steal lots of gold from Pirates, your only other option is the Lady Washington, with less cargo and worse guns for a much lower price. But "the lesser of two evils" isn't much of a recommendation. For the same cost, you'd be better off with the Philadelphia, which lets you steal an entire derelict ship of any faction, treasure and all.

Because she's a Common, the USS Atlanta will show up in many people's collections. But I doubt if she'll show up in many people's active fleets. She isn't horrible, but she just isn't very effective.

Goldship rating: 2.7 / 5
Gun Ship rating: 3.3 / 5
Boarding rating: 2.6 / 5
Value for points: 3.1 / 5

Cargo Space: 4 spaces is pretty common for ships with this power, if this week is any indication. That's good though.

Masts: Only three masts with a 2S, 3L, and a 4L for guns. Not a great variety, but if all you do is steal and run away, then you shouldn't need a lot of good guns.

Base Move: A mere L is all the USS Atlanta has. You won't catch a lot of ships with this nor will you flee enemy pursuit too well if you do swipe some gold.

Point Value: You're not getting too much here for 11 points. USS Atlanta doesn't do anything well and would only make a decent gold runner.

USS Atlanta doesn't have a lot going for it. The best use for it I can think of is to have it accompany a fighter who can derelict Pirate gold ships for the USS Atlanta to raid.

I give the USS Atlanta a 2/5.
