Cadet-Captain Mike Name: La Repulsa (Spain)
Card: SM #SS-004 (Rare)
Points: 14

Masts: 1
Cargo: 2
Moves: S+L
Guns : 3S
Hit %: 50 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls for every friendly ship within S of her.

Spanish Main Spanish Week launches with La Repulsa, a tiny ship that has dreams of being a fighter. One-masted ships don't usually do well when the cannonballs fly, unless they have some very special ability. This one doesn't qualify.

Her speed is quite good; with one more cargo space, she'd make a decent gold ship. Her lone cannon is decidedly average, and her ability needs one or two friendly ships in close proximity to make it work. That means La Repulsa's role is to follow her big sisters into battle, and use her speed to zip into position where her cannon can finish off a damaged foe. A Firepotter on board would be a worthwhile investment; a Captain is mandatory. That runs her sail-away cost way higher than any one-masted ship can justify.

This ship is not a good value, by any stretch of anyone's imagination.
The same 14 points could pay for infinitely more effective fighters like La Sirviente or La Tartessos. If you want a gold ship, you could get La Santa Isabel and save a point. La Repulsa isn't repulsive, but she's no prize, either.

Draco Starcloud La Repulsa

I think there's two or three of these Spanish Main 1-masters that are called scout sloops by the flavor text before the term is never heard again.

Anyway, this little La Repulsa is definately meant to be a fighter. Her ability gives her +1 to her cannon rolls for every friendly ship within S, and since it's a 3S you can get near-perfect accuracy with a couple of friends nearby.

The problem is that ships her size aren't great fighters, no matter what their cannons are. They're too small and even a ship with bad cannons can still ram them to render them helpless.

This ability is further weakened by La Repulsa's speed, a good S+L, which is unfortunately better than a lot of other boats. Even boats than can keep up with her are probobly better suited for fighting and should be the ones shooting at the enemy.

La Repulsa has a fair two spaces for cargo, so she's good for getting some gold.

Her cost, 14 points, is too much to make her a viable option for any role.

I give La Repulsa a 2/5.

Fighting: La Repulsa is, in all honesty, a decent fighter, when ignoring her point cost of course. But we can't ignore her point cost, so in other words, she's an abomination of a Spanish one-master. So, here we go with the fighting aspect of her game. Her ability can bump her cannon ranks down pretty low if you sail a couple ships next to her, and her speed will work wonders for ya. Her cargo allows a captain and even a helmsman if wanted. Still, she costs 14 points for a mere mast, so she won't last long, and I can't think of anyone willing to pay for La Repulsa when they could get La Tartessos for the same price. 1.75/5

Treasure: Oh god. Oh lord. Oh sweet Jesus. Alrighty, here we go: As said earlier, her speed is great... that should be no problem at all. But she only has two cargo, and she costs an atrocious, REPULSIVE (hence the name of the ship) 14 points! How can you pay for 14 points for a ship with one mast that isn't a great fighter and certainly isn't a great treasure runner?! Don't use this ship. Just don't use it. 1/5

Overall Rating: 1.25/5
BAILEY
La Repulsa (Spanish) - PoSM SS-004

Points: 14. The absolute worst on a 1-master (except for Le Solitaire at 17). It alone makes this ship unplayable. 1/5

Cargo: 2. Average cargo for a one-master; on any other ship it would be bad, but for a 1-master it's OK. 2.5/5

Move: S+L. One of the only things this ship can actually do well; but, for a 1-master, it's fairly normal. 4/5

Cannon: S3. Exactly average. This cannon shouldn't do much damage, even when this ship is left alone. 3/5

Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls for every friendly ship within S of her. This is a good ability, but on a 1-master, it goes to waste. So your cannon is one rank higher; who cares? You hit the enemy ship once, and your dead. That's how it would go. 2/5

Overall: This ship is a mediocre ship with too many negative stats weighing it down. If it cost 6 points less I'd consider it; right now, it's a shabby second fighter that I could barely ever see get any gameplay.

Vladsimpaler So, today we begin PotSM: Spain week, with...well...WHAT KIND OF A CRUEL JOKE IS THIS?!

La Repulsa, 14 points
Masts: 1
Cargo: 2
Speed: S+L
Cannon: 3S
Abilities: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls for every friendly ship within S of her.
Flavor Text: "The Repulse" is a small but effective scout sloop. The confidence and performance of her small crew dramatically improve when she is part of a larger force.

Ah yes, La Repulsa. Ineffective, day 1. Not many ships have that title. Actually, I think this is the only one that was ineffective, day 1. This ship is literally the stain of Spain. And when I asked what kind of cruel joke this was, it's because I like Spain. Duh.
Onto the ship...-sob-...
Well, it's fast. And it has 2 cargo. Its cannon isn't bad, nor is its ability....but its cost. Oh god, its cost. It's terrible.
Not much can be said, this ship is terrible. Only use it if you like to be the butt of jokes.

A 1/5 from me.
