Keyword: Sea Monster. Fear.

For those who think sea monsters are cool but overpriced, your shark has come in!

Squalo is far and away the least expensive monster in the game. You get only two body segments for your nine points, so he isn't a terrifying boarding machine like some of the krakens. Two body segments is fine for boarding a two-masted ship, though, especially since you'll usually knock down a mast with your ram before you board. His Fear ability works even while he's under water, which opens up a sea of possibilities. On the down side, Squalo is a bit on the slow side, so you'll want to get him to a place where the enemy has to pass near him. And I know just the place.

Plant this shark off an enemy home island, and blockade that island from under water. Use Fear on anything that comes near him. There's a 1 in 6 chance the enemy won't be able to move, and another 1/6 chance that you'll immobilize his crew (including the Helmsman, if any), which means you could paralyze traffic in and out of his home port. When a gold ship with only 1-2 masts passes by, you can hum the theme from "Jaws" as the big fishie goes for a ram and board. Just make sure there aren't any fighting ships nearby; two body segments don't last long under fire.

9 points is a good price for any ship that's at all useful. Squalo's combination of submerging and Fear is useful indeed. He's not a big monster, or a fast one, but any monster that doesn't eat up all your points is a monster I'll use at least once.

This is the last ship that we review this week, and in my opinion it is the best. I haven't been very happy with the ships so far, but this ship is gonna change my mind real fast. First, lets take a look at the BAD aspects of it.
Really, the only BAD thing is the 0 cargo, and its a sea monster so it can't carry crew anyways. OK, so its move is only an L. But hey, take what you can get, right? This sea monster has more good than bad qualities by far.
Let's see. 9 points for a ship with fear is still outstanding. And a sea monster? That's amazing! They can't shoot you, and you can just sail up beside them and Fear away! They  can't do anything about it. And so what if that's all you use it for? It's only 9 points! I give this ship (shark i guess) a 4.5 out of 5 just because of it's average move.

4.5/5
