Cadet-Captain Mike Name: Didier Vidal
Card: OE #083a (Common)
Points: 2
Faction: France

Ability: Once per turn, this ship may look at one face-down cargo on any ship.

This crew's ability is purely a support role. Before the battle begins, he can help you know which enemy ships are carrying which crew. Once the game is going, he can help you choose the juiciest gold-runners to pick on. The trouble is that the crew or treasure he looks at is chosen at random, so if a gold ship is carrying a 1-point treasure and a 6-point treasure, it's 50/50 whether you'll see the good stuff or not.
The more turns you play, the more mileage you'll get out of him, so he'll be more useful in big-point games that last longer than half an hour.

I'd call Didier a fair value if he cost only 1 point. 2 isn't bad, but it's too much; even the generic crew give more bang for the buck. I don't see him getting much use.

Name: Jordan Dumas
Card: OE #082 (Rare)
Points: 5
Faction: France

Ability: Crew of any nationality may use their abilities on this ship.
Once per turn, you may reroll any die roll you make for this ship; you must use the second die roll result.

Reroll is always a useful thing to have on a ship. In fact, the original Jordan Dumas (from Barbary Coast) also had the reroll ability, but it was combined with a move/shoot. His other ability in Ocean's Edge is one of those talents that sounds better than it is. The French already have a fair selection of crew to choose from, so unless you want a specific crew for a specific mission, it's unlikely that the any-crew ability will get much use.

The original Dumas is a good crew. This one is distinctly second-rate.
They should have made him just a reroller for 3 points, so I could give him average marks or better.

Total rating: 2.5 / 5
