Link : Thane Hartless
Keyword: Submarine. Mercenary.
Ability: Crew of any nationality may use their abilities on this ship.

Like most submarines, the Slipstream is meant for stealth tactics, not brute force. Her cannons are okay, but she doesn't have enough of them to warrant a fighting strategy. She's no cargo hauler, either, so submerged ramming is about all she's good for. That means a Helmsman is mandatory.

Her ability is a good one for the Mercenaries, who have so few crew to choose from. If you have the points to spend, you could use some of the more exotic crews to turn the Slipstream into something surprising. For instance, you could put a Marine crew on her and give her some firepower. Or you could go with Colin Maberly, grab a 1-point treasure from somewhere, and swap it for a random coin off the enemy's decks while underwater. Or there's Grim the Savage, who lets you grab all the gold you can carry from an enemy home island; the enemy won't see that one coming until it's way too late.

The trouble with all these options is that they're expensive; you're paying to add value to a ship that doesn't have that much value to start with. This isn't a horrible ship, but she just isn't that good.

300 reviews! Wo-hoo! A new reivewer! Wo-hoo!

Anyway, lets look at the review, Mercenary is a penilty, but the low cost for a Submaine is good. It is cheap for what you get. It's slow, but adding a helsmen could help with that. You can cause a lot of damage with this thing. Ram Gold ships, then board and take gold to your hearts desire. Slipstream's ability doesn't help much since it doesn't need much crew. The link with Thane Heartless isn't that good either, since he costs too much for a reroller, but he could help with re-rolling your boarding and providing more cargo. I wouldn't use this sub as a fighter , too few cannons, and both are average. It would make a fine support ship, one that stays underwater a lot.

If you want a Submarine, and your sick of always losing to enemy gold ships, field Slipstream with a helsmen (and Thane, if you have the points).
3.5/5
