Tiamat

With this being the first introduction of the sea monster contingent to Pirates it may be a little too early to determine their long-range impact on the game dynamics. I can tell you putting together a sea monster fleet is FUN! The look on your opponents face when your Tiamat barbecues his Baochun out in the open sea is priceless. While not the best effect among sea monsters nor the monster with the best armament or movement – Tiamat is playable – with a half-point deduction for its price. (way better in the 13/14 point range)

Flavor Text: No one knows if this creature is the god referenced in Babylonian myth, but few can dispute its awesome destructive power and pure hatred of all landwalkers.

Now I’m not one of those whiney players who is negative towards all things supernatural in Pirates, in fact, I was rather in favor of Sea Monsters when they first were announced, and now that they’re out, I’m in even MORE favor of them, if that’s possible.  I love the fact that you can play with a big old kraken or sea-serpent.

Tiamat, originally the name of an ancient Babylonian deity, is most probably more famous for being the name of the big-bad dragon in the Dungeons and Dragons TV Show of the 80’s.  However, the D&D version of Tiamat has five heads.  This one has one.  No biggie, she’s still a dragon, or a serpent.

This monster has the additional fire-breath attack, which is actually pretty cool if you ask me.  If only one of you segments is in range, then naturally you’d want to use the fire-breath attack.  Unfortunately because she has decent, if not spectacular cannon ranks and ranges, I don’t see that fire-attack being used all that often.  Plus sea-creatures have enormously over-costed point totals.

Wild’ Will’s Patented EBAY Auction Review 6-6-06

Average EBAY Store Amount: $6.00

Five to six dollars seems to be about right for a sea-creature.  At least until more of them appear.

My Ratings

Playability 3.5 of 5

Collectability 4 of 5

Next Week – Einstein says he’s picking, so I dunno.

I M Einstein Timat

Timat is a Sea Monster from DJC. It has 4 segments which is good, and pretty average stats.

Cannons:3S, 3S, 3S, 2L - Solid, especially the last one. will have about 2 hits with a full body(all of the segments).

3/5

Cargo: 4- Great, since sea monsters cannot hold crew

3.5/5

Speed: S+S - Average. The bad part is that you can't add a helmsman.

2.5/5

Effect- The Sea Monster effect is great to board other ships. The second one is only useful if you.. well... only have one 3S mast left.

3.5/5 first effect
2/5 second

Points: 16 - I would say overcosted, but I haven't played sea monsters yet.

2.5/5

Overall: 2.5/5 A little less than average.
