Set: POSCS

Card #s: 004

Rarity: Rare

Type: Ship

Cost: 15 Points

Masts: 6

Cannons: 4S, 4S. 4L, 4L, 4L, 5S

Cargo: 6

Ability – Junk. Once per turn, you may reroll any die roll you make for this ship; you must use the second die roll result.

Flavor Text - The Great Wind is named because of her unnatural ability to sail under even the slightest breeze. The wind itself loves her so much that it assists her at every opportunity.

We’ve now reviewed all five six-masted Junks from South China Seas, Grand Wind is arguably the worst of the five.  Arguably because some might consider her ability as better than the other six-masters, I don’t know who, but someone might.  Yes six cargo spots are awesome for a ship this size, but you’ll be using those to bolster up her cannons in most cases, since 4s and 5s are horrible.  In short, if this is your only six-master, you would probably want to use her, but if not, she’s trade fodder only.

Wild’ Will’s Patented EBAY Auction Review 4-21-06

# Closed Auctions: 2

High Sale Amount: $2.00

Low Sale Amount: $3.75

Average Sale Amount: $2.90

Average EBAY Store Amount: $6.25

Whenever there’s that much disparity between the Ebay store amount and the closed auctions, something’s wrong.  This piece is just not all that playable.  The Ebay stores think it’s rare so it must be worth $5.00 or more, but the players know this ship is worthless in terms of game play.

Next time – Perhaps it’s time for a new poll?  What do YOU want to see reviewed?  Post in this thread: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?p=3953420#post3953420 And we’ll see what we can do.

Richard Grand Wind

Five of these 6 masted junks were included in the most recent Pirates of The South China Seas expansion. Grand Wind is perhaps the least good of these.

Her guns are all below average (4-rank), and one is absolutely feeble (5-rank!). Yet at 15 points, she’s not the cheapest of these big junks, and you would need to put Chang Pao aboard (another 4 points!) just to bring her guns up to somewhere near par.

Her ability however, is excellent.

The ‘once per turn re-roll any dice’ ability, used to be the province of named crew. But now the ability seems to have jumped across to ships. This doesn’t make quite so much sense in terms of the back-story - but is a very useful ability nonetheless.

Generally, this ability cries out to be twinned with a ‘roll 5 or 6 for an extra action’ character, giving you two chances of an extra action every turn (which tends to work out, on average, as an extra action two turns out of three, which is pretty darn potent).

However, to be honest, with such relatively weak guns, I don’t think I would play this ship that often, and particularly wouldn’t want to ‘waste’ a valuable ‘5 or 6 for an extra action’ character aboard her even if I did!
My rating. Nice ability but lousy guns. Overall - a bit of a pup. 2/5
