Pirate Piece of the Day

Smokepot Specialist
Multiple - Multiple

Once per turn when this ship is given a shoot action, you may declare that one of her cannons is shooting a smokepot instead of a cannon; you do not need to target a ship. Simply place the center of a fog bank within S of this ship; it may not touch an island or any ship docked at an island. Remove the fog bank at the beginning of your next turn.

Firepot Specialist
Multiple - Multiple

Once per turn when this ship is given a shoot action, one of her cannons may shoot a firepot at a target within S of her. Declare which cannon will shoot the firepot before rolling the d6. If it hits, the ship's controller replaces one of her masts with a fire mast. At the beginning of every turn, roll a d6 for each fire mast. On a 6 remove the fire mast; on a 1-3 the ship's controller replaces another of her masts with a fire mast. When a ship has only fire masts, she must be scuttled on her next turn. When a ship docks at her home island or at a fort, remove all fire masts as a free action.

Neat-O.  This is the kind of crew that makes my heart and head love this game so much.  This crew is so useful it’s not even funny.  Especially for those ships that have stinky cannon rankings.  Got a ship with a 5S cannon?  So what, use the Smokepot.  Ranking doesn’t matter.  Makes for a nice subterfuge.

If you HAVE to go purchasing these guys for your specific fleet, they shouldn’t cost much more than $1.50 each.

Oh yeah, FIRE baby, fire.  This crew HAS to be one of the BEST additions to this game ever.  It’s just too bad you can’t stack them!  If you’re not using one in each of your fleet builds (heck if you can afford it, one on each ship), then you need to re-examine your strategy.

These bad-boys sell for about a buck on Ebay, a good investment I would think.

Smokepot Specialist

Now *this* is a fun crew member to use. Three points is not overly expensive for the ability to drop a fog bank on your opponents. A really nice bonus over the other Specialists is you do not have to roll a hit to successfully use this ability; you just have to give up one of your cannon shots. This can mess with your opponent's board position if you can consistently fog them up. It's not great, but it's really, really fun to use.

Firepot Specialist

And we come to another Specialist. This one is actually quite good, if you ask me. It only costs two points, which is pretty cheap for what you get. Basically, once per turn, you can give up a cannon shot for the ability to shoot a firepot within S range. If you hit, they get a fire mast. Then they roll on their turn to see if they replace more masts with fire masts, or if they get to remove fire masts. When the ship has all fire masts, it basically dies. Not bad at all for two points; you can slowly kill your opponent. If they don't want to lose their ship, they have to either get lucky or race it back to their home island or to a fort. This can really help you out a lot. Toss it in if you have two free points.
