Here we have a pretty good four-masted fighting ship, forced to fight with the equivalent of a ball and chain around her ankle. What a shame.

Her price is reasonable, her cannons are adequate, her cargo is good, and her ability could prove very interesting. A cheap SAT crew from the Pirates, for instance, could enable her to do wonderful things. But she'd have to do those wonderful things very s-l-o-w-l-y. There's no question that she needs a Helmsman along with a Captain. But why bother, when the same 12 points could buy you Le Vengeance, with a +1 versus the English, an extra cargo space, and -- most critical -- S+L speed?

There's no way La Martinette can compete against a ship like that, unless you don't own the other ship.

This could have been a good ship if she was just a little faster. But she isn't.
