Cadet-Captain Mike Name: La Resolucion (Spain)
Card: SM #SS-009 (Uncommon)
Points: 12

Masts: 4
Cargo: 4
Moves: L
Guns : 2S,3L,3L,2S
Hit %: 233 (S), 100 (L)
Ability: Once per turn, this ship may randomly take one treasure from any ship she touches.

This ship's ability screams "boarding!" She's got the masts to win a boarding action, and if all you want to do is board with her, her cargo holds are deep enough to make it work. But therein lies the rub.

La Resolucion also has a fine set of cannons, and it would be a shame to waste them on a ship that does nothing but board. So she needs a Captain. She'll need a Helmsman regardless of her role, and now you're down to two free cargo spaces. You'll fill one when you use your ability, and you'll probably fill the other when you win your boarding action. This leaves you full, with little option but to go home and unload (you shouldn't risk fighting and possibly losing half your cargo if you lose). Master Bianco would be a very worthwhile addition to this ship's crew; he'd give you another cargo space to use your ability again, and the ability is much better than boarding because the enemy can't dump his 1-gold coins on you.

An effective fighter that is also an effective boarder, La Resolucion would be a fine addition to any Spanish fleet. She has one serious flaw, namely, that she shares her name with one of the most vicious fighters in the Spanish navy (the OE version), so you can't use both at once.
Aside from that, she's good to go.

Draco Starcloud La Resolucion

Today's ship is an above-average ship that can fair well as either a gold ship or a fighter.

She's fairly well suited as a boarding ship; she has a large four masts and her ability lets her randomly take a treasure from any ship she touches, so she can have a free piece of gold without even initiating a boarding action. With four cargo spaces, she can hold a good load.

Her cannons are an average mix good for fighting at any range: two 3L and two 2S.

Her speed is a fairly slow L as well.

La Resolucion costs a good 12 points for being generally above-average.

I give La Resolucion a 3.5/5.

Even though El Acorazado was the 5-master from Ocean's Edge, La Resolucion was definitely the flagship for the Spanish. El Acorazado got considerably worse from SM to OE; this ship did just the opposite.

La Resolucion (Spanish) - PoSM SS-009

Points: 12. This ship has about the average point cost for a 4-master. Not too high, but not low enough to be a complete steal. 3/5

Cargo: 4. 4-masters rarely have more than 4 cargo, and since this one looks like it wasn't equipped to be your main fighter anyways, it's good enough. 4/5

Move: L. It could be a lot better; but, on a 4-master, I don't expect it to be. A helmsman will always remedy the L move. 3/5

Cannons: S2, L3, L3, S2. I could say the EXACT same thing today as I did about El Acorazado yesterday; good mixture, good cannons, etc, etc. 3.5/5

Ability: Once per turn, this ship may randomly take one treasure from any ship she touches. Uhh... OK? This is a bad, bad ability for this ship. It's obviously equipped to be a fighter, but the treasure ability makes it a little harder to choose this as your main or even backup fighter. Even on the rare occasion that you do have a cargo open for treasure, it's not the best strategy with this ship. 1/5

Overall: The OE version of this ship is so much better, I can't even begin to describe it. But, this ship is a fairly solid ship with fairly solid stats that gets a fairly solid rating.

RATING: 3.5 / 5
