Cadet-Captain Mike Name: Captain Jack Sparrow
Card: PotC #019 (Rare)
Points: 5
Faction: Pirates

Link : All <<>> ships
Keyword: Parley.
Ability: When given an explore action, if this ship chooses the last treasure coin from an island, this ship can be given a move action.

I hate incomplete card-gallery entries. What ships does Jack Sparrow link to? I'll stick my neck out and guess "all Pirate ships," and base my review on that.

"Parley" is a new ability that lets you pay an enemy to give up his shoot action against you. This may save a small or damaged ship, or it may give your gold to the enemy for not much in return; you'll have to use it carefully.

The reverse-Explorer ability sounds a lot better. It works only if you grab the last treasure, so Jack may want to sail on a ship with deep cargo holds so he can be sure of grabbing everything at once (Darkhawk II, anyone?). In a typical game, he'll get only one or two chances to do this. The wording of the rule means you can't combine Jack with an Explorer for a move/ explore/ move combo, so don't even think about it.

Jack Sparrow's two abilities will take finesse to use to their best advantage. That sounds like Jack to me, and if he can link to any Pirate ship, there will be plenty of places for him to find that advantage. My only objection to this crew is I think he's overpriced.

Because his abilities are new and untried, I could be wrong on that score.

Gold crew rating: 4.0 / 5
Gun crew rating: 2.0 / 5
Boarding crew rating: 2.0 / 5
Overall value: 2.7 / 5
