"Le Flamberge" supposedly means "the Flame-Cutter," a fine name for a fighting ship. She's not exceptional in any way, but she's a very handy ship to have around. Why? Because, in Mysterious Islands, ramming and boarding are a lot more prominent than in older versions of the game, which means a lot of crew are going to get killed in boarding actions.
But not on this ship. You can ram and board to your heart's content, knowing that if you lose, your crew will be intact. They're also safe from ships that kill a crew once per turn with cannon fire. Submarines won't mess with you, since you're so much bigger than they are.

The most fun you can have with this ship is to pull alongside a foe, and use the Schooner turn to pivot until your gunwale hits his bow. Now you can board him with impunity. And if you have a Captain on board (which you should, along with a Helmsman), you can follow the boarding action with a blast from four cannons. If he survives, he can't move away because he's pinned, and he can fire only one cannon back at you. You can pick him apart or seek other prey at will.

With four masts, you'll win most of your boarding actions, so use your speed to ram and board often. Use your boarding actions to kill enemy crew; you don't have much room for stolen treasures. The ship can also serve as a fighter, not a great one, but not bad. If that's your goal, your third crew should be Gentil de la Barbinais, who gives your guns +1 against non-French ships. Also consider using Robert Surcouf instead of the Captain; he gives the same ability, plus the chance to board from S range.

If this ship came out in the Crimson Coast or Revolution series, I'd rate her average or slightly below, because boarding wasn't a winning option back then. The way the game has evolved has made Le Flamberge a thoroughly useful ship. I just wish she were a bit faster.

Total rating: 3.5 / 5
Sumpbeast Le Flamberge

A slow ship for a schooner Le Flamberge is a fighter.

She has below average speed and cargo for a ship her size but does have decent short range guns and a crew protecting ability. She is priced similar to schooners of equivalent strength at 12 points. I am not impressed by Le Flamberge but she is not a bad ship 3/5.
