Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against Pirate ships.

Every now and then, WizKids forgets that American ships are supposed to be slow and overpriced, and they make a ship like this one. She can't take on the El Acorazado or HMS Titan, but that's not her role. The Flying Fish is a sniper.

Her cannons aren't overwhelming, but her speed and maneuverability let her use them more effectively than more ponderous ships. If the enemy is a Pirate ship, which is common enough, she can really do some mischief.
Her role is to zip into range of a gold ship or secondary fighter, fire a salvo or two, and zip away before the target's big friends can get close enough to retaliate. Her cost is pleasantly low; just add a Captain and away you go. She can pinch a little gold on the way home, too.

Any fast ship with decent cannons can make herself useful, but some are better at it than others. The Flying Fish is slightly above average for a two-masted ship. Just remember - sniper, not brawler.

Sumpbeast Flying Fish
The Flying Fish is an average ship for the Pirates of the Revolution set. The mast to cargo ratio is also average (2:3). The cannons are decent; one is a 3L and the other a 3S. Against pirate ships the ability bumps up the cannons to 2 rank cannons. Not too shabby. The Flying Fish’s points cost (9) are on par with similar ships if a bit on the high end. This is not a powerful ship, but she can be useful. She looks to me like a ship you could use to chase after treasure runners and take pot shots at anything else. I would shy away from placing anything other than basic crew on the Flying Fish. In the smaller games I would not take her preferring the slightly slower 6 point ships with 2 rank cannons. This average ship gets average marks from me, 2.5/5.
