Cadet-Captain Mike Name: Le Coeur du Lion
Card: OE #080 (Rare)
Points: 2
Faction: France

Masts: 1 (rating: 1 / 5)
Cargo: 3 (rating: 2.5 / 5)
Moves: S+S (rating: 3 / 5)
Guns : 2L (rating: 2 / 5)
Hit %: 67 (S), 67 (L)
Ability: This ship cannot shoot when she carries treasure.

The "Lionheart" first appeared as a limited-edition ship in South China Seas. In her current version, she's lost a mast and cannon, and gained a bit of speed.

At face value, this is a pretty average ship, in terms of speed and cargo. She has one good cannon, which she can't use if she has gold on board. One-masted ships weren't made for serious fighting anyway; I ain't saying she's a gold digger, but that's her best role. But all her plainness pales in comparison to her microscopic price tag. Only three other ships (the Pirates Mermaid and Rover, and the Spanish Raton) go for this little, and while the Coeur isn't as good as the first two, she's better than the Spaniard, and gives more than what you'd expect for two points. She's also better than the other super-cheap French ship, Le Fureur (3 points).

For 4-5 points, Le Coeur du Lion would be an average ship for average marks. But for the cost of a Shipwright, she's a superb value. If she were a hair faster, I'd give her a 5.

Total rating: 4.5 / 5

Sumpbeast Le Couer Du Lion

Somehow, between sets, "Le Couer Du Lion" lost a mast and shrank in size. Fortunately her use may not have been reduced so significantly. The ship has good speed for the later sets, but only a single mast with a 2L cannon. Her cargo space of 3 is good for her size.

However, at 2 points I find her only useful for running treasure which may not be such a bad thing.

Her ability is a detraction which does not allow her to shoot when carrying gold. With a helmsman Le Couer Du Lion moves 3S and can carry two gold. I might field if I had four points left, though there are better ships that do the same thing for a little more gold. I would not field her fighting at all since to place proper crew on her one needs to get a crew with the "limit" key word or a detraction (moving crew to an island when hit) plus Le Couer Du Lion only has 1 mast making her fairly fragile. I do see Le Couer Du Lion as an opportunistic treasure runner, grab the big stuff and run with her don’t fight, 2/5.

French, 2 points

Masts: 1

Cargo: 3

Speed: S+S

Cannon: 2L

Ability: This ship cannot shoot when she carries treasure.

Flavor Text: Le Coeur du Lion is a mere shell of her former self, barely able to maintain discipline among her crew and sporting more leaks than usable cannons.

Okay, so the French didn't get all that much 'good' stuff in OE.

Remakes, remakes, and more remakes plagued them. At least they were normally better than the original. :/ But the one that stands out the most is this little ship, Le Coeur de Lion. Anyway, onto the review.

Well, despite the flavor text, the new Le Coeur de Lion is almost literally the Banshee's Cry, and could be used as such. Princess Aura Aurii, the French SAC Captain, and an Oarsman would be pretty sweet, but it would stink if you got hit. Well, that's why you don't do that.

A helmsman or an explorer would be good on this ship. Just imagine, for 3 points, you get a ship that can explore an island in one turn, and get 2 gold pieces as well, or get 1 gold piece and be able to still shoot with a perfect 2L cannon! Nothing wrong with that. This ship fits perfectly in with the likes of Le Bon Marin and L' Artesien!

Or, for a gnat fleet, you could use this ship with Le Feurer, and L'Intrepide.

Anyway, yeah.

This ship is pretty flippin' good. But if only it was one point more and had one more cargo...actually, then it might be broken. Besides all of that, du Lion gets a 4/5.
