Cadet-Captain Mike = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Name: El Acorazado
Card: OE #059 (Rare)
Points: 14
Faction: Spain

Masts: 5 (rating: 5 / 5)
Cargo: 4 (rating: 3 / 5)
Moves: S (rating: 1 / 5)
Guns : 3S,3S,3S,3S,3S (rating: 3.5 / 5)
Hit %: 250 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls. She gets +2 instead if her opponent is a sea monster.

The original El Acorazado was a slow-moving, unstoppable juggernaut.
Her above-average cannons, and the fact that it took ten hits to dismast her, made her much feared, and very popular in Spanish fleets. Today, we look at what they've done to her in Ocean's Edge.

The good news is that her point cost has been slashed by 33%, making her one of the least expensive of the five-masted ships. The bad news is that you get what you pay for. Instead of her mix of 2S and 3L cannons, you get all 3S'es. Her ability is just about useless on a ship this big
- no sea monster will want to risk boarding her, and there's no reason for her to board a sea monster (they have no crew and carry no gold).
She's still a snail in the speed department. Her cargo is fair for a big ship, and you'll need it for crew - Captain, Helmsman, and probably Nemesio Diaz, the ability-canceller. Better yet, replace the Captain with Luis Zuan for the move/shoot and world-hater combo, and now the new El Acorazado is starting to look like a real fighting ship. Joaquin Vega, the first-hit ignorer, would also find gainful employment on a ship like this.

The point is that the new El Acorazado isn't much without a lot of help from crew. If you have the points for the original version, you'll be a lot better off. If you must spend 14 points for five masts, go for La Tartessos; she has better cannons, better speed, and a much better ability.

Flavor Text:El Acorazado was recently discovered rotting away in a Spanish shipyard. She was restored and outfitted with harpoons to battle a different enemy.

Rant time! I knew this version of the Pride of Spain was going to suck. I knew it. Spain's stuff always sucks when it doesn't cost much.
In my opinion, they should've left this junk in a shipyard. Anyway, Spain got shafted big time. Virtually all of its ships were rehashes, and the ones that weren't normally stunk anyway. The crew weren't much better. de Alva is the third board-within-S captain. El Pescador, well he is okay if you houseruled him like I did.
But onto the ship. The Acorazado is visually, and stats-wise, unimpressive. S move, average cannons with a range of S, and 4 cargo.
Oh, and an ability reminiscent of HMS Shetland. Well, luckily Spain has some stuff that can turn El Acorazado from a laughing stock to something that isn't so much of a laughing stock. Luis Zuan, a worldhater captain, should be the first to go on. Second, Master Gunner Rogelio Vasquez, who makes all of the Acorazado's guns L-Range.
And last but not least, a helmsman. Whoops, that's 14 points. So for a
28 point total, these are the Acorazado's stats:
Masts: 5
Cargo: 1 Free. Luis Zuan, Helmsman, Rogelio Vasquez
Speed: S+S
Cannons: 2L 2L 2L 2L 2L
It now has perfect cannons, and average speed. Just hope that you never have to use the ability, because if you do, then you stand to lose some very important crew!
Well, while the new Acorazado will not have people clamoring for it, and while people like me who have the original won't care for it, the OE version is not too bad once you fix it up with some good crew.
My rating? 2.5/5
