Pirates of Davy Jone’s Curse - #061A Commander Spencer Portland
Name: Commander Spencer Portland
Set: PODJC
Card #: 061A
Rarity: Common
Type: Crew
Cost: 7 Points
Faction: English

Ability: Once per turn before you give this ship an action, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, this ship may be given the same action twice. This ship’s crew cannot be eliminated unless she sinks.

Flavor Text: Portland’s disgust at having to answer to Van Tyne and hear rumors of monsters and other nonsense has him working his crew extra hard, preparing them to fight for the crown—not some fool’s errands.

So Commander Portland has VIRTUALLY the same ability as the original Sir Christopher Myngs (SM-EC-002), only Myngs doesn’t have the second part about crew not being eliminated, and costs 4 points less. Oh he’s also a rare instead of a common. AND he has a linked crew. All reasons why if you’re thinking about playing Portland, play Myngs instead.

Pirates of Davy Jone’s Curse - #-59 Trevor Van Tyne
Name: Trevor Van Tyne
Set: PODJC
Card #: 059
Rarity: Rare
Type: Crew
Cost: 7 Points
Faction: English
Link: HMS Bretwalda

Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls against the Cursed. As part of a move action, this ship may initiate a boarding party against a ship up to S away from her, without having to ram. The boarded ship may not use any boarding bonuses.

Flavor Text: It did not surprise anyone that Van Tyne would risk his reputation vanquishing monsters, demons, and beasts in the New World. What surprised many was how long it took him to find a woman to share the glory. But one glance at Mademoiselle Godiva, and it was a done deal.

Is it me or does Trevor look a lot like Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing? He’s a faction hater with the super-boarding action, for 7 points. Seems awfully expensive to me. One of those great in theory game pieces that will virtually never see game play in a competitive environment. But hey, that’s a pretty picture isn’t it?

Wild’ Will’s Patented EBAY Auction Review 7-30-06
# Closed Auctions: 1
Sale Amount: $0.99
Average EBAY Store Amount: $3.00

It would seem that collectors agree with me, not paying more than a buck for this bad boy. Sure the Ebayers and singles merchants would have you pay $3-5 for any portrait rares, but we know better, don’t we.
