You HAVE to love a ship with the name “Silent Death”.  To me it evokes images of Soylent Green, or The Omega Man.  Sure I’m dating myself here, but then again, if you can’t date yourself, then you need to find a better singles bar.  That one almost went over MY head.

Anyway…for 12 points you get a nasty ship that will definitely do some damage.  TWO cannons that are 66% chance to hit at S range doesn’t suck.  Neither does the 4 cargo spaces, which while you won’t be using her as a treasure runner, means you can put some crew on that will definitely help out.  Boarding without ramming doesn’t stink either.  If your initial attack doesn’t work, since you are within range, board your opponent and take their crew or treasure.

And she’s a COMMON, meaning well, you should get one with no troubles.  This ship I can see being a staple in Barbary fleet builds.  I don’t normally do auction reports for commons, but I checked out the prices anyway, you’re looking at $1 to $1.50 if you have to purchase her.

My Ratings:

Playability 3.5 of 5

Collectability 2 of 5

Next Time: Crew-fers continue, a little off the beaten path.  We’ll look at a couple specialists.

Aethereal Silent Death

As expected, another ship with the Galley ability. You get a pair of 2S cannons for twelve points, which is normally pretty bad, but remember, this is a Galley, and they tend to have crap for cannons, so this isn't
*too* bad. 4 cargo spaces isn't a whole lot, and definitely not enough to haul treasure all day long. S+S movement is average. The ability of this ship is where it's at, though. First, you have Galley, which is a lot of abilities rolled into one. Then, you get to board a ship within S of this dude. You don't get to use any boarding bonuses, but that is not really a bad ability. Not great, but not bad. Boarding might get more popular (as opposed to being almost nonexistant before) with abilities like this. I'll give it average marks for now.

Rating: 3/5
