To start off our week of totems, we're taking a look at the Indiana Jones of Neopets, the Kougra Archaeologist.  If you're thinking of building a deck that revolves around totem use, this is your guy.  With a single tap, you can add a totem back to your hand from you discard pile, making him a recycling machine!

The downside?  His stats are average, and it's going to cost you one tap, one bank, and the totem to get the totem's effect that second time.  Of course, if you're using the Snarling Totem to knock out a powerful opposing Neopet, it could be worth it.

Ratings:

I could easily see people making a totem-based deck, and this guy would be very helpful.  If you're not using totems, I would not use the Archaeologist at all.  That being said, I'll post a 3.2 of 5.

Welcome to Totem week! Over the next little while, we've got an excellent line up of cards which everyone on the team has sent in. Today is Kougra Archaeologist, something of a must-have for those of you interested in testing out those Totems.

Stats-wise, this card is a bit of a bummer, I think. With an average 11 in Agility, and a sub-par 9 in Strength, you probably won't be winning too many contests with him. Besides, he has a paltry 4 and 6 in Magic and Intelligence, respectively. Fortunately (or unfortunately, however you look at it), you probably won't be starting many contests with him late-game because of his effect.

His effect allows you to tap him in order to return a Totem from your discard pile to your hand. Those of you unaware of the effects of various Totems, you are able to remove them from your Bank at different times in your turn in order to reap the benefits of their effects. Currently, there are quite a few of them that are quite good in terms of effects, with Wooden Kougra Totem leading the pack (IMO). You can use this to pull used-up Totems back into your hand in order to use them again. It's quite good, really, in the right deck.

Rating: 3.5/5 (In a Totem deck... Probably 1.5/5 anywhere else)

If used in the correct build, he can be phenominal. In fact, with two of these out and a third Neopet of any species, you could be swinging Totems around while Banking other cards at the same time. Try him with Techo Fisherman, some books that allow you to view the top cards of your deck, and some Wooden Kougra Totems. There are many other possibilities for this card that you could try out. That was only one.

Mystery Island 29/100 Rare
Rating: 3.8

This Experienced Neopet has the higest agility stat for the Fire faerie type, matched only by the new Kougra Chieftain. This card is limited to a very specific type of deck. If you're not playing Totems, you won't see this card. That in mind, the Kougra Archaeologist's ability to tap to return a Totem from the discard pile to your hand is enormous. Totems are made to be discarded from your bank, so you're going to see them in the discard pile more often than not.

There are currently four Totems. The Snarling Totem allows you to discard one of your opponent's Neopets. The Shell Acara Totem makes each player discard their hand. The Wooden Nimmo Totem gives you a +3 to all stats for a turn, and the Wooden Kougra Totem allows you to win a contest no matter what (even against a Villain or a roll of 6!). These are all amazing cards with only the downside of losing bank points, because you have to discard them from your bank to trigger the effects. But with the Kougra Archaeologist, this isn't nearly as painful as it sounds. You could use the card effect, discard the Totem, then bring it back to your hand at which point you can bank it and either leave it there for its bank point value, or use it to aggrevate your opponent once again.

I'm giving this card a 3.8 because it can only be used with one very specific kind of deck. As more Totems are released, I think we'll see a lot of the Kougra Archaeologist.
