This week, I’m going to test out a new system of rating cards called the A BAD system, created by a featured writer at Pojo’s Yu-Gi-Oh, Jae Love. Here is a link to his article on A BAD system… http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/FeaturedWriters/JAE/2004/07-06.shtml

The system works well enough with YGO, so what about Neopets?

Sleep Ray

Equipment | Weapon

Strength +4 | Magic +2

“To play this, tap one of your Neopets.

If you win a contest this Neopet is in on your turn by rolling a 6, choose one of its rivals and discard it. (A Basic Neopet is put at the bottom of its owner’s Neopet stack.”

Bank: 2

-Holofoil

Advantage F/H: This will give you a minimal advantage in the area of Magic, and an above-average boost in Strength. You’ll be tapping one of your Neopets, which means you’ll have less to use during your turn. As well, it is giving you clear field advantage of one card, if you roll a 6 to win on your contest. Strictly average, if that.

5/10

Best Draw for the Situation: Rarely will you need a boost of 4 or 2 in a specific category, and considering the fact that it only provides the boost to two categories brings its rating here down even further. Cards that give stat boosts to all stats rate higher here. If you have Neopets in those two arenas, they may be moved somehow anyway, which isn’t uncommon. As well, it’s a Bank for 2, which is substandard. There are many, many better cards that will Bank for higher. If it was a Bank for 3, its rating here would be upped.

4/10

Attributes/Effect: You will almost never make use of the effect, because of the fact that only YOU can win with a 6, and only on YOUR turn. If both of you roll a 6, you re-roll. If your opponent rolls a 5 with Grarrl Gladiator, you re-roll. This rating is boosted slightly because of the fact that it has no attribute. That means it will work with Battle Eyrie, one of the few cards possible to help out.

4/10

Dependability: This card is barely dependable. It is only good if you happen to need a boost in Strength. Its effect will go off extremely rarely; leaving you with a deadweight equipment card you tapped a Neopet for.

3/10

Total: 16/40 = 4/10

Seems to work fine in my opinion!

Deke Sleep Ray

Equipment | Weapon

Strength 4 | Agility - | Magic 2 | Intelligence - | Bank 2

To play this, tap one of your Neopets. If you win a contest this Neopet or Hero is in on your turn by rolling a 6, choose one of its rivals and discard it. (A Basic Neopet that's discarded is put on the bottom of its owner's Neopet stack.)

14/100 RoDS HoloFoil

Here's a new equip that's has both stats and an effect. A +4 in strength isn't a bad boost, even though strength does have better stat boosters. But, the effect on the card is the real bonus. On the off chance you win by rolling a 6 on your turn, your opponent loses one of his/her neopets. Not bad! Now, your opponent will get to bring a pet back during their turn, but it's unlikely that they'll be able to bring back a pet that is going to be difficult for your pet to beat, since you already have a +4 boost.

This card could be used in any arena for it's effect, and in Magic it still gets +2 as well. The best exp pets to use this with is the Battle Eyrie, Darigan Skeith, Darigan Usul, and Acara Treasure Seeker. The Darigan pets have extra effects when you win by rolling a 6, and the other two improve your chances of rolling the 6. Think about it, you could win the contest, gaining a draw or bank, discard an opposing pet, and force your opponent to discard a card at random from their hand, all because of one lucky roll. On the other hand, a Battle Eyrie should win with a six about 1 in 3 times. And a Battle Eyrie with +4 str and an extra roll against a basic pet they'll have to bring back is almost a sure victory every time.

Ratings:

It's a so-so powerup with a chancy effect. Depending on what pets you're using, it might be worth playtesting. I give it a 3.6 of 5.
