Paul Hagan  Blue Poogle -- 4 / 5

As far as basic Neopets go, Blue Poogle is probably in the Top 10 available. On your turn, it has a 7 in Intelligence and Strength, a 6 in Magic, and a 5 in Agility. Although he becomes slightly weaker on your opponents turn, if you need a Water or Poogle Neopet, this probably goes in the deck first thing.
emdman  Blue Poogle eh? It’s a pretty nice card actually.

What you got here is a Neopet that can be placed in any arena without pleading insanity, and that’s not all. It can turn into the ever so popular Poogle Racer, and since it’s a Water-type, that means he can give you access to lots of cool cards, such as Giant Snowball, Slorg Trails, and the soon-to-be Mortog (coming in Battle for Meridell). Blue Poogles are exceptionally pesky, since they can gain +1 to all stats in contests during your turn!

But there are some weaknesses with this card too. Poogle’s stats are very low compared to other pets, meaning it cold get squashed by a Grarrl in the strength arena. Because of this, it is recommended that you evolve it ASAP.

For having nice, but low stats, an awesome card to evolve to, and giving you a lot of very cool cards, I’d give it a 3.5/5. It’s a very cool card, but on it’s own it’s pretty much worthless.

Welcome to the first Neopets Card of the Day!  We start with one of only six rare basic Neopets, the Blue Poogle.

Blue Poogle

Neopet | Basic Poogle | Water

Strength 6 | Agility 4 | Magic 5 | Intelligence 6

This Neopet gets +1 to all stats in contests on your turn.

31/234 Rare

This card beats Yellow Poogle only by a stubby nose, its stat-pumping effect being a guarantee on your turn instead of only being useful against Fire.  Blue Poogles overall base stats are very well rounded, which means as a Basic Neopet it will almost always be at a disadvantage to any other well-placed Basic Neopet, but that it can be put into any arena and still stand some chance.  Then again, most people that play this card dont really care that much about its stats or effect, as they are only using it as a stepping stone to the speedy Poogle Racer.

As far as Basic Water Neopets go, there really isnt much of anything for high stats, Acaras having 7s in Agility or Magic.  So, if youre looking to use Nothing Has Happened, Copier v2.0, or Slorg Trails, Poogles might be your way to go.  However, watch for a replacement in the upcoming expansion, as Quiggles might turn out to be a better option.

Ratings:

In Poogle Racer deck, the Blue Poogle comes in at a solid 4 of 5.

In any other deck, it just cant beat the competition, and only gets a 1.7/5.

Basic Poogle – WATER

Str 6; Agi 4; Mag 5; Int 6

This Neopet gets +1 to all stats in contests on your turn.

Not too bad. But not too good either. Basically, you get a 7 Str or 7 Int during contests on your turn. Again, not bad, but it goes back down to 6 in both when it’s not your turn, which doesn’t make it unplayable, but its not a giving you a good advantage. It’s pretty good if you’re running a deck where you really don’t care if your opponent win’s his contests or not, or if you have ways to stop him from winning contests other than beating him.

In terms of Poogles, it is definitely the best basic, especially since its only competition is Yellow Poogle, who has lower stats in all categories except Int (where their tied) and gets a +2 bonus vs. Fire rivals. It lets you also potentially get Poogle Racer and Poogle Apprentice, who each have their own pros and cons.

There aren’t too many cards that require a Water Neopet, but the ones that do are generally focused around control, from what I’ve seen. One of the better ones (to be reviewed soon) is the Hero “Malevolent Sentient Poogle Plushie” a good card with one of the best names in the game, in my opinion.

Personally, if I wanted to use this in a deck, I’d probably throw is some of the stronger Acaras and make a Water based deck, probably focusing around Snowballs and all the associated cards, along with some of the cards that let you mess with the opponent, as kind of a control deck. Hmm…I should do that. Interesting.

Rating – 3.8 out of 5

See you next week
