Shikamaru Nara & Kakashi Hatake
[Clever Play]

#N-730

Review Date: Mar. 19, 2010

Average Card Rating

Limited: 1.50
Constructed: 4.25
Block: 4.25

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.
3 = average.
5 is the highest rating.

Beastly Mage

Shikamaru Nara & Kakashi Hatake

Today's card is one that's simply great!

The Shikamaru/Kakashi Squad combines Mental Power Battling with Early Settlement-like tactics. In this case, Victory/Outstanding Victory = 1BR for you, while Defeat/Outstanding Defeat = 1BR for Opponent. Even though the effect is not valid, with 7 MP you'll probably be getting Victories as is. Combine this card with Shika's mom (and maybe his dad, the "As a Father" version) and you WILL be getting the victories most of the time! Now, the "put in play" effect is good too. The mission card this Squad allows you to look for (Intellectual Strategy) allows you to have Mental Power Battles during three turns, which would make your opponent think (and think hard) on how to get these two out of the way.

Ratings:

Limited: 2/5
Constructed: 4/5
Block: 4.5/5
Art: Back-to-back genius!/5

PS: Ever see this one in Black and Gold? It's just sick!

====================================
3/19/10 N-730 Shikamaru Nara & Kakashi Hatake
====================================

I would like to start the day by apologizing for missing many reviews lately. I have been very busy lately (read: Partying too much) this Spring Break and I've been out of the country for a while but hopefully, my schedule should be back to normal now.

II also want to apologize to Mr. N. Jolly for "stealing" his review format. Well, I didn't steal it, it's just the way I like reviewing cards since it is very efficient and we both just have the same taste I guess. Actually, I'm not really sorry since I plan on using that format still, but with a little change. Sorry, Mr. Jolly :P

Now to the review...

Shikamaru Nara & Kakashi Hatake
Earth/Fire
EC: 5 HC: 0
Leaf | Male | Chunin | Jonin | Proctor | Sharingan Eye | Mental Power: 7 | Squad
Healthy: 7/4 Injured: 5/4
Combat Attribute(s): Shadow/Genjutsu
Rarity: Super Rare
This squad should be easy to pull-off in fire since Kakashi (and all of his spin-offs) are played religiously in Fire and Shikamaru makes his way in every deck with his Flexibility and Unwillingness. Let's check out the characteristic line now.
Leaf: One of the only village characteristics really worth having in the game, the other being Akatsuki.
Male: Not as good as Female as always, unless you play Determination of Men.
Chunin: Not as good as Jonin.
Jonin: Better than Chunin.
Proctor: Kinda useless since the characteristic is only helpful if you're playing Shikamaru [Proctor].
Sharingan Eye: Very useful since it gives you access to Visual Jutsu and other fun Sharingan cards.
Mental Power: 7: WOW!! This is the smartest ninja in the game which isn't a surprise since it is two of the smartest ninjas in the series.
This card's stats are also nice, offering decent combat and moderately high support.
Genjutsu CA is a big plus with all of the fun cards (read: Fear by Genjutsu) Genjutsu has; Shadow CA is only useful for Shadow Stitching of course.

[CLEVER PLAY]
When this Ninja is put in play, you can search for 1 "Intellectual Strategy" Mission card in your Deck and put it in play. Then, shuffle your Deck.

When this Ninja's Team wins a Victory or an Outstanding Victory in a Mental Power Battle, you win 1 Battle Reward. When it is Defeated or Completely Defeated in a Mental Power Battle, your opponent wins 1 Battle Reward.

In case you're wondering, Intellectual Strategy makes everything a Mental Power BBattle for three turns which is devastating since this guy has Mental Power 7. The second effect is reminiscent of Kakashi Hatake [Early Settlement] but now only with Mental Power Battles and it is unfortunately not Valid.

All-in-all, this is a very great card that can turn the tide of the game in your favor, and is not to hard to run.

Limited: 1/5 There are no Shikamarus in Broken Promises >.>
Constructed: 4.5/5
Block: 4/5 Less options for Shikamarus and Kakashis to play
