Review Date: Oct. 27, 2009

Average Card Rating

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.

5 is the highest rating.

Beastly Mage

Akamaru

Today we'll take a look at Snoopy... erm, I mean, Akamaru ^_^

This version of Akamaru is all grown up and ready for action. It packs the same stats as his human, and a nice effect that's good for Animal Mill Decks. Send this little guy out to attack with at least one "Inuzkua" Ninja in his team, and you can discard two cards from the top of your opponent's deck. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Right now, that we know of, we only have Kiba and Tsume, but I'm having this suspicion that Hana will be here soon. ;-)

At least, that's what I think...

Ratings:

Limited: 3/5 (if you can draft an Inuzuka)
Constructed: 3/5
Art: I still say he looks like Snoopy.../5

N. Jolly
N-660 Akamaru [Faithful Ninja Dog]

Again, sorry for the sporadic schedule, I might miss tomorrow as well, but I will definitely make sure to make it up for Friday's super special awesome card! N. away!

Today's card kind of falls under what yesterday's card was, which is a "it's hard to top what we've already got" version of a former card. Let's check out it's stats, shall we:

T2 HC0 Fire
Leaf/Ninja Dog/Animal
3/2 1/2 CA Fang

It's got all the attributes we've grown to love, and with good stats for the turn, but it lacks growth, which would have actually made it a good card to throw into decks. Without being able to play this on top of Akamaru P, it has no place in regular fire, but I guess it's effect tends to lean more towards mill anyways, as we check out it's effect:

[Faithful Ninja Dog]

When this Ninja is sent out to Attack in the same Team as 1 or more Ninjas that include "Inuzuka" in their names, discard 2 cards from the top of your opponent's Deck.

With an effect like that, it sure begs to be place'd in Dog Mill, but that as of now still isn't a very consistent deck, which hinders this card. Again, if it had growth, I'd have really like'd it, but without it, it just isn't worth playing except in dedicate'd mill, which has yet to be a force to be reckon'd with.

Constructed: 2/5 It's not bad, but we have better.
Limited: X/5 I don't know how mill will work here, but it looks decently support'd
Art: Just like Brock, he's just too busy being awesome to open his eyes...
StormVyper Zera Akamaru [Faithful Ninja Dog]

I really like this guy. For a while now, I've begone to notice that [Partner] kinda sucks. I mean, you can free drop him into play, which is cool, but he only has 1 Support which isn't even that great Turn 1 either. Whenever I play Kiba, I usually just leave Akamaru in my hand to be used for a Hand cost because, as stated, Partner sucks. This guy, however, is a much better ninja to have around for a number of reasons; he serves the exact same purpose as Partner, except with a few added perks. First up are his higher stats. He's a consistent 2 Support that's searchable by MBC, but you can actually drop this guy in play without the unpleasant aftertaste of having a fairly useless ninja who is only there to be used as cannon fodder for Tragic Name or to get RFG'd to Squad into Kiba/Akamaru. And if you decide not to deploy him, just Hand Cost him as you would Partner. And on top of all of that, he mills cards when he battles alongside Kiba. Seeing as my Fire deck has a decent number of Turn 1 ninja already, but only a handful or Turn 2 ninja, I'm planning on giving this guy a whirl come next set.

Limited: 2/5
Constructed: 3/5
