Beastly Mage

Rock Lee [Speed of Lightning]

Welcome to another week of reviews. Sorry for not writing last week. I had a few situations at hand. But, enough about me, let's get on with today's card.

This Chunin version of Rock Lee is, well, interesting to say the least. A turn two with one hand cost is quite odd (but, when you think about it, Rock Lee is a bit odd himself). His effect can be helpful. When he's put in play you can move your turn marker by 1. So, that means you can use higher turn cost missions a bit earlier. But, at the end of the turn you have to flip a coin, and if it's tails you move the turn marker back down by one. Other than that, he does have some great stats for a turn 2, plus growth (which makes the hand cost go away if played right). In limited this guy could help, same with constructed. Try it and see.

Matthew Low Monday 5/3 - Rock Lee [Speed of Lightning] - Lightning - Ninja

Interesting card. I assume the hand cost is there so he can't be splashed, which is a good precaution. That's also his downside, as he could just end up being a 4/0 4/0 on T2 with a temporary turn move to play a Mission early. He has good stats for a T2, but his hand cost is his detriment.

However, the ability to manipulate the turn counter can do some weird stuff. Missions can be played a turn early, and while nothing amazing comes to mind quite yet (you wouldn't be playing this Lee in Naruto vs Sasuke), I'm sure there's something out there that would benefit. Ninjas can also hit play early if you manage to flip heads, and you can also Growth him, which would be pretty funny if you hit heads twice, putting you at T5 when you're on T3.

I can see a lot of potential in him with solid stats, but nothing right now screams "Abuse me." I bet there are Missions out there that can benefit, and definitely Ninjas that would like to be played a turn early, if you manage to flip heads. Right now I'd stick with the Genin Lees until something pops up.

Constructed: 3.5 out of 5.0 (Great potential, but hand cost.)
Limited: 2.0 out of 5.0 (Solid, but hand cost makes it auto bad).

Lee [Speed of Lightning]

This Lee has really great stats- mono 4/0 on T2, though he has a Hand Cost. He pumps up your turn marker. After you play him, you can unleash a mission a turn earlier. Sadly, his boost is only temporary, unless you can flip and get heads. Lightning has better options, but this Lee is decent.

3/5

Art: Okay.

Fun Fact: South Park people can make episodes in a week!

Tomorrow: What a coincidence. Beerfest is on.

StormVyper Zera Rock Lee [Speed of Lightning]

Right off the bat, the Hand Cost bugs me. I don't really see this card seeing an enormous amount of play in Lightning, mostly because I can't for the life of me fathom a use for jumping to Turn 3. I mean, what mission are they going to play? If you land the Heads to keep the +1 to your Turn Marker, awesome. Just too bad Lightning doesn't really have many Turn 4 cards to play. I mean, you might see a Shizune, but if you need this card to power towards her, you're probably already in a bad spot. This card would be super-fun in a more lategame-oriented element like Water, where getting to late game actually matters. Too bad it's on Lightning, which is generally the Rush element. Oh what might have been.

Limited: 1/5 (Red dot.)
Constructed: 2/5 (The Hand Cost is holding this card back.)
Artwork: Apparently, Rock Lee kicks. Who knew?
