Beastly Mage

Shikamaru Nara

Today's card is another Proctor version of everyone's lazy-bum Ninja: Shikamaru. His effect is somewhat reminiscent of the US Formation in that it negates effect texts. But, there's a little bonus to this Shikamaru. Rather than negating the effect of the Head Ninja, it negates all the effect texts of Ninjas battling this Ninja (and by default, his team). Only problem is that it only happens when he's attacking. Still, it's a good effect, which can put your opponent in a tight spot when you attack. Try it and see.

N-596 Shikamaru Nara: I Got Your Back

Sannins to the left of me, Kages to the right, stuck in the middle with you...stuck in the middle with you...

Hello again my adoring public, today we have the newest showing of Proctor Shikamaru, this time sporting a brand new effect. But let's check out his stats first; Leaf (okay), Chunin (means he can use Head Hunter as well as the better Shadow Jutsu), Proctor (This really only matters for his card, which is kind of funny...not really), Male (seems dangerous now, but not bad), Mental 4 (standard for Shika, but still incredible), Growth (Always good, and a nice growth off of the SR Shika when they don't have any T2s left to hold back). All that and Shadow with normal 2/3 1/3 stats is pretty good, but I feel he's a bit understatted...probably just me, but I'd like to see him with a valid effect with those stats.

Now this Shikamaru has an effect that's considered an upgrade from his older USf showing, which is that while he's battling as the attacker, the effects of your opponent's ninjas are negated. That's pretty nice, especially considering some of the effects floating around out there. I'm still not sure how this ability would work against Kiba/Aka, but for the most part, negating an entire team is pretty nice. I'd use him in a deck that relied on the new and old Shadow jutsu, using the new SR Shika for decks that just want to abuse his effect.

Constructed:3/5 Good Shika who is good at being good.
Limited:2/5 Not a lot of effects to negate as well as better Shikas.
Art:It kinda looks like he didn't know he was getting a card made today.../5
StormVyper Zera Shikamaru Nara [I Got Your Back]

Lol, it's [usFormation] on steroids. For a good while now, it's been sort of an unwritten rule that [usFormation] is like in an auto two-of in just about everything. Shutting off problematic Ninja effects like [Tragic Name] and forcing your opponent to substantially lower their overall Team Power just to play around is really strong. Now, your opponent doesn't really have that luxury. In a game where Ninja effects are just as powerful, if not more powerful than the jutsu they play, shutting down an entire team is a pretty big deal.

Limited: 5/5 (There's no reason not to play this card here if you draft it.)
Constructed: 4/5 (Now you've got a choice between this guy and his Genin incarnate.)

Today's Wednesday and the weekend seems so far away... Today's card however is a new most incredible ninja from the next set:

Shikamaru Nara N-596

While apparently Shikamaru keeps getting better and better with every set or at least keeping high standards going, this one is no exception. He's a turn 3 Shikamaru with (H:2/3, I:1/3) stats which are excellent with growth, 4 mental, proctor, etc Shikamaru characteristics and turn 3 means he can use the new Shadow Stitching Reactive Jutsu which is another great PLUS.

Now what makes this Shikamaru so special, of course, a crazy effect like every other Shikamaru lol, this non-valid effect, common for Shikamaru, is reminiscent of the usF Shikamaru which is a GREAT ninja that still sees play nowadays and has been very useful since the release, a perfect turn 1 ninja. This one although arriving a little later in the game, makes up with excellent stats, good characteristics and his effect now negates EVERY ninja battling against him when he's sent out to attack. This effect kills things like APW, Goal, Gaara[TN], Flexi, Shika/Mari and so on which is incredible! However, the down side to this is that it's only when attacking and not being valid but that's overlook-able due to how good the effect is, this card WILL see play at least 1-of with the 2 usF or maybe the other way around. Shikamaru does not stop amazing me even to this day, this effect is excellent and could add a new feel to playing ninjas if it reaches wide spread use.

Awesome ninja, if this effect would either be valid or when sent out to battle, he'd be perfect, if it would have both then it would be broken.

Limited: 5/5 (No reason why not to play him here)
Constructed: 4/5 (May be a 5 but play-testing is needed)

Art: You talkin' to me?/5
