Beastly Mage

Genma Shiranui

This version of Genma is pretty good. Liquidating either a permanent mission or a client can really help when you're in a pinch. Now, remember, this only happens when he's discarded due to the showdown, not by Ninja effects or anything like that. He's also got some good stats, and he's a common. This could be useful in Limited, and better in constructed. Try it and see.

Constructed: 3/5
Art: How he fights and keeps that Senbon in place amazes me/5

N-507 Genma Shiranui [Hidden Passion] - Fire - Ninja

This Genma is very interesting and I almost want to play it. The problem is that for his effect to go off, you have to chump him away, not discard him by some other means like Gaara [Tragic Name]. And losing board presence is typically not a good plan unless there's a good reason behind it.

He has decent stats at 4/2 for a T3 MP1. His effect is pretty new though, as if he dies due to the Showdown, you can nuke a Permanent Mission or Client in play. The first thing that came to mind is getting rid of my own Emi so I can replay her. Second thing is getting rid of my opponent's Emina. Third thing was... I'd rather play Anko to get rid of Permanent Missions, but Genma can nuke Caged Bird.

I can see him seeing some play in sideboards as a possible removal tool for Emina instead of Shabadaba, as he'll be on-element for Fire, not a completely useless card in worst-case scenario, and can nuke other things as well. I'm just not fond of his trigger. I would have rather had the effect similar to Kabuto [Withdrawl] or Anki [Blocking the Ambition] as Genma is something you can't necessarily control. Even chumping with him may not work if they play removal on him instead.

Unique card with an effect that's not seen often. Just would have liked a better trigger.

Limited: 3.3 out of 5 - Solid Ninja drop. Effect likely won't be used.
Constructed: 2.6 out of 5 - Sideboard card at best IMO, though tempo might consider it. Even then likely a stretch outside of decks that won't run Shabadaba.
