Beastly Mage

Welcome to another week of exclusive reviews, Naruto fans. Today's card is Hayate Gekko [A Spy]. This card does something many of those facing the new Ambush mechanic like to see. It actually stops your opponent from deploying Ninjas through that mechanic. Unfortunately it also stops you from doing so. Still, this card rocks in so many ways! The stats are better than his Mission-Negating form, and you won't lose him after using his effect. In limited, he could be of some help if your opponent drafted Akatsuki Ninjas. In constructed, he's a good sideboard option. Try it and see!

Hayate Gekko
[A Spy]

This is an interesting card. It was made to counteract a game effect that just came into effect last set. Weird thing is, ambush isn’t all that prevalent…Also it doesn’t seem to be much of a problem in the meta. It counts as a normal drop, and your opponent loses a chakra (the ninja itself) to get it in play. This Hayate prevents both players from doing ambush, so don’t play this card when you are running Itachi [Goal]. If ambush becomes really prevalent, or if they change the rules on how ambush works (as if it doesn’t count as deployment for the turn.) But I don’t see that happening. It’s got great stats for a turn 3, but I think I’d rather use DAP or the new one that we got in Approaching Wind.

Constructed:2/5
Limited: 3/5
