So unless you've been under that proverbial rock, you have heard of this thing called a "rogue list" in which 5 cards have been only allowed to be run in 1's. 3 of them lightning, 1 fire, and 1 wind. Among them? Shadow Clone Jutsu! the card that has defined the element for over 6 sets! This massive shock to the Purple color has made us all question if it is still runnable in competitive formats? and for that matter, with the loss of it's greatest mill card along with it's best recovery card (emina) what is it that lightning does? These, along with this jutsu card are what I will be bringing you today.

Without the safety net that is Emina, Lightning instantly had to steer away from the two deck system that has made it so dominating for the past 6+ months. And with loosing The Jutsu Fetcher that is Jiraiya along with their bomb jutsu SCJ it looks like purple has thrown in the towel......However I personally see Aggressive Lightning returning as the only competitive archtype in the game. Loosing Shadow Clone makes it much less likely that Mono-Lightning Aggressive will make a splash in the format but isn't that why we hybrid?

With the introduction of this card and a few others in set 13 it looks like the most sucessful Lightning decks will be early game and slightly mid game reliant. Things like Paper bomb, Perverted Ninjutsu, Shadow Clone (as a 1 of now of course), Sexy Jutsu (I like path this format) will be lightnings way of gaining early game advantage with things like Naruto Vs. Sasuke, My Rule (to a much less degree), and Preliminary to the third Exam (set 3) to overwhelm the opponent. Making a turn 4 win plausable will require good jutsu cards in the mid game however. And that's where today's card comes in....

Thousand Years of Death is a Jutsu that has a lightning friendly requirement. Instead of Rank requirement, such as Jonin or Chunin. We have a card that can be used by any ninja with a printed entrance cost of 3 or more. It's effect is a potent one, you can either change a ninja battling against to injured status or negate the ninjas effect during this turn. This card is very versital. When going against the opponents Control of Power Naruto (set 4) making him a 0/0 3/0 is pretty good for 2 chakra. The when battling against a neji that has made your ninjas "sealed" you can throw this bad boy down to give you access to your effects for the turn. On the other side of the coin, Turning Gaara Tragic Name sideways for 2 chrakra is a better trade then just negating his effect. The same can be applied to Jiraiya Instructor (set 6)

Overall, This card will be in that "utility belt" that lightning will collect in an attempt to fill the recent void left with the exit of shadow clone jutsu. Had this card been introduced last set it would've been forgotten. But now? who knows....

Constructed: 4 out of 5. I expect to see a lot of this card in lightning.

Art: 5 out of 5. For what he's about to do, he should reall wear gloves XD

WORST PICTURE EVER.

Anyway, decent effect. Low cost to injure any ninja opposing, and it has no requirements, other than that it can't be used until T3. Lightning's been getting some good support for this set (but does ANYONE need TBF? =/ ), and this just adds to it.

Also, this can negate an opponent's effect. Negating ninja effects during the EOJ isn't too awesome, though, especially since you can already ditch their nonvalid effects. Even yesterday's card had a useless second effect.

3/5
Art: WORST PICTURE EVER. I could start an hour-long rant about how bad that picture is.
Fun Fact: I won't get the swine flu because Mamoswine sucks.

This card is ok. Unfortunately, this card won't really be widely used because their are simply better Jutsu to be played in its' place (like Giant Shuriken, for example). The fact that you can select which effect this card applies (unlike Revealing the Ending, which attributes to its' lack of play), so that's pretty cool. All in all, this is a decent card, but it really shouldn't be a Rare; it just feels like one of those cards that you'll pull like 6 of and die a little inside.

Limited: 3/5
Constructed: 2/5
Artwork: ..Is anybody else a bit concerned that Naruto seems to be enjoying himself a bit too much? .__.;
Steven Dally Jr. A Thousand Years of Death -

And here we have the second preview.
With this, we have a hand full of mediocre/Pretty decent Lightning Jutsu's coming with this new set.
Now in my opinion, I feel this card isn't all that bad, even though it's not all that great.
I know most would rather use the Giant Shruiken or the Genjutsu release card, and I would join them in that.
I feel ATYoD follow's the theme of out muscling Fire by releasing their effects (That's what I would use on ETDF or DOTM).
You negate their effects, or at least make them waste a Jutsu, and that's that.
But I would still rather use a much more powerful effect then that.

But for 2 chakra, and being able to choose between two effects, and not requiring anyone too serious, it would be a decent
one of IMO.

Limited - For this set, it wouldn't be bad 2.5/5
Constructed - there are better Lightning jutsu's, and many would agree, so I don't how much play it's going
to get, but I don't see it being much. 1.5/5
