Beastly Mage

Ultimate Defense: Shield of the Shukaku

Unlike the rest of this week's cards, this one has a specific Name and Turn cost requirement: Gaara with 4 or more turn cost. But, remember, Shukaku counts as Gaara once it hits the field. Now, on to the effect: For one Wind, you increase by ten either the Combat or the Mental Power by 10. That's great, but this Jutsu only works when defending. On top of that if you score an Outstanding victory, it becomes a regular Victory by the effect of this card. That can downgrade the level of play this card has. Still, it's a great defensive technique, and quite useful in the Sand deck.

Ratings:

Limited: 1/5 (Super Rare that needs a specific Ninja... good luck!)
Constructed: 3/5
Art: Why is Shukaku wearing Pojo-Sama's hat?/5

Alucard of the Abyss

Today we get to the last Jutsu in Gaara week. Today is Gaara's "Ultimate" Defense. Today's card is Ultimate Defense: Shield of Shukaku.

First as usual, the cost. It's good. One Wind is easy enough and managable. It's requirements are, instead of being "Sand combat attribute + turn 4 or higher", are "Gaara + Turn 4 or higher". It can still be rendered useless by Shikamaru because of the turn requirement. Now onto the effect, it's alright. You can either give your team a +10 Power or a +10 Mental Power but it also makes it so if you get a Outstanding Victory it makes it just a normal Victory. So don't expect this card to overpower your opponent's whole team to injure them, it won't happen. I'm not a real big fan of this Jutsu because it's just Team Power. Team Power pump Jutsu haven't been all the important and it has no effect on your opponent's Ninja so it's generally passed over for Sand Tomb in Gaara themed decks. The one good thing is even if they Trigram one of your Ninjas (this of course if they don't just chain it to Gaara using it and negate it) it still won't take your Team Power away since it's not pumping one specific Ninja, but the whole team. Even still, it's not the top choice for Gaara decks and not even really that helpful as a teched copy.

In limited, ew. Pass it up. The effect is awesome here, but it's got strict requirements. If you pull at least two Gaara you might consider it, but face it, we all know how hard that is in limited.

The art is pretty cool. The giant Shukaku sheild with Gaara sitting behind it hiding in a gourd-shaped Sand barrier. Pretty neat.

Constructed: 2/5 (there are better Gaara Jutsu)
Limited: 1/5 (bad in limited)
Art: 4.5/5 (I like it)

MeGaMaRi
Hello Pojoers! Today's card of the day is Ultimate Defense: Shield of the Shukaku.

I'll start off by saying this is a very balanced card. You can only use it when you're the blocker, and you cannot get an outstanding victory. Plus, only turn 4+ Gaara's can use it. Lots of requirements, except it being 1 wind chakra.

Just like the card says, it's pretty much an ultimate defense. +10 power or +10 mental power is pretty much all you need to stop anything, if you're the blocker. Plus, no pesky Gigantic Fan can negate this.

Great card to conclude with this week. I myself use 1 of these in my deck.

Limited: 1/5
Constructed: 4/5
