dust2dust Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsu

Pro:
-multiple targets
-opponents only

Con:
-Jonin only

Today we look at a card that’s very popular among tournaments, and for good reasons. Why? Because it’s good. A card this powerful can win you the game is nothing to joke about.

Gerenal-
For measly 3 water chakra, you can return all of your opponent’s ninjas that are battling the user. If use right, and it’s not hard to do, the user of this jutsu may as well win the game. Most people who run water in their deck will most likely have Zabuza and this card, simply because it is such a deadly combination.

It does, however, require 3 water chakras. For the most part, this kind of difficult to do without mission cards; no one wants to waste their hand to take a chance to use this card because it is so easily countered. A simple 8 trigram, another water vortex, or any old negation card can cancel out this card. On top of this, it also requires a Jonin to play. A card this powerful should have some draw backs, but they are not anything particularly hard to solve.

If you are planning on playing this card, using some missions would be a nice way to charge some chakra.

Construction: 4.5/5
Limited: 3.0/5 (chakra cost and requirements makes it harder to play)

Playdoh Dude Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsu

This is the Giant Breakthrough of Water. But much better. It may be a SR, but you'll be better off playing this than all the other bounce cards. It moves the opposing team to the owners hand. But for 3 Waters, it would be better if all of you ninjas would be returned. That would make it godly, and it would fit the SR position better. Still, the Jonin requirements is something easy for Water. They have the godly Zabuza, and then Kakashi and Hokage if they splash Fire. Either way, this card is pretty good, but you don't get as much bang for your buk as you think you might.

CONSTRUCTED: It'd be very nice to draw it at the second you need it. Its one of
Waters staples: 4.75/5.
LIMITED: Hard to get 3 Waters for the cost, but if you do, good job: you'll
probably win. 4/5
ART: 4/5. Best art I've seen so far on a Jutsu.

OVERALL: 4.375/5

Beastly Bruin Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsu
Element: Water
Cost: Water x 3
Requirements: "Jonin" or higher Rank
Target: Ever ninja battling against the user
Effect: Move the target back to it's original owner's hand.

Giant Vortex Jutsu? Three Water. User? Jonin or higher. Securing those last two BR's you need to win? Priceless.

Yeah, the cost is steep, but if you prepare for it, it's merely a pittance for such a devastating effect. This is what Wind Style: Great Breakthrough is trying so desperately to be. Unlike that card, this card is beneficial on either player's turn, and it's a bit easier to play.

You don't want to use this on a team of 2 or less Ninja unless absolutely necessary, because it just feels dirty.

"Jonin" isn't really that big of a hurdle, because this card is more beneficial late-game when most of the battles involve that level of shinobi.

In limited, this card wins you the game. In constructed, this card wins you the game, however, if it's negated, you're down two Water Chakra and an ace-in-the-hole. Not so good, but not terminal. Be careful, young Padawans...

Constructed Water (Hybrid or not): 4.4/5 (It loses .6 for being 3 Specific Chakra)
Limited: 3/5 (Only if you're drafting Water...duh)
Art: Meh...The effect carries the weight.

Apprentice of Anubis

Today, we review a Water version of Wind Style: Great Breakthrough. Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsu.

For the Pro’s side, this card sends the ENTIRE opponent’s team back to their hands, meaning if you’re opponent wastes all their battle rewards with their Sasuke Uchiha [Power of the Curse Mark] or use up all their Chakra for every Jutsu in their hands (Kunai, Shadow Clone Jutsu, Cross-Shaped Shuriken, ect.), this card stamps them with a simple, but definitive “No!” J

Now, we look at the Cons, which is surprisingly short this time around. The only thing I can think of to say negatively about this card is that for one, 3 Water Chakra is a bit expensive for my tastes, and the fact that only Jounin’s can use it. Though, from what I’ve seen of Curse of the Sands, this won’t be a problem. With Shibuki and Suien coming out in the next set, and the fact that we already have Zabuza and Orochimaru at our disposal, you can expect this card to get a bit more play in Water type decks.

Constructed: 3.5/5
Constructed Water/Rouge Ninja Deck: 5/5

Limited: 2/5 (Sorry, but the Chakra Cost and Jounin limiter make this card hard to recommend here. Though, if you are ABSOLUTELY sure that you can support it, I can see drafting one perhaps…)

Rakath

Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsu

Another Water staple Jutsu. With a requirement of Jonin you have a few options. Water/Wind has Kurenai, Zabuza, and Orochimaru. Water/Fire has Zabuza, Orochimaru, Kakashi, Third Hokage. I could do the other two splits (Might Guy and soon added Jiraiya and Third Hokage for Lightning, and Asuma for Earth). Anyway, enough with how awesome the list of good users is. The cost and effect are more important.

At a Water|Water|Water it's a bit more specific a cost than what we normally get, but it clears out the enemy team. Sending the whole lot back to hand. If they can't stop this and this ends the chain any enemy Jutsu cards vanish. Along with that if you are attacking you clear out an easy access to Battle Rewards. This makes it devastating. It does quite a deal. However it is a 3 cost Jutsu and has a first access at generally Turn 4 (sometimes Turn 3 and earlier).

It works, run it in Water. Otherwise don't.

Constructed (Water) - 4/5
Limited - 3/5 (Your choices of users is limited here, and it's a Rare. Loses some points.)
Art - 2/5 (Meh.)
