Pro:
-good effect either way

Con:
-chance
-specific cost
-requirement

With a new week, we have the new set. This week we look into the cards in the new set, in preparation for it’s launch this weekend.

General-
We had lighting blade before, but this one is easier to obtain. You can get one of these when you buy one of the new starter decks. Personally I don’t know how many comes in one deck, that’s something we can wait to find out.

The effect requires a coin flip. In some cases this would be a bad thing, but for lighting blade, it’s either good or better. You can either deal 1 damage to a ninja, or discard the ninja; it’s a win-win situation. The best thing, however, is that kakashi does not need to be the head ninja to use lighting blade. He can be supporting, and still use lighting blade to it’s full effect.

The down side is it cost 2 fire chakra instead of 1 fire, 1 any the old one used to. Also the jutsu obviously requires having Kakashi to use it. Neither one is a big down side. If you play a fire deck, getting 2 fire chakras is not that much harder than getting 1 fire and 1 any, and Kakashi is pretty much a stable in any fire decks. It’s benefits out weights the downsides for me to reconsider playing this card.

Overall I say buy 2 starters just to get this card (if each comes with only 1). It’s a well worth investment in my opinion.

Constructed: 3.5/5
Limited: 4.0/5 (sealed deck)

Apprentice of Anubis

This week, we’re reviewing cards from the upcoming set, “Curse of the Sands”, and today, we have an arguably better version of a super rare card from the first set. Lightning Blade.

On the Pro side, it’s fairly cost effective for it’s effect, being priced at two (Fire)’s for it. On top of that, at worst, the card will deal one damage to the target; at best, it’ll flat out kill it. So, for your Chakra, you’re getting a fairly good effect.

The only Con? “Requirement: Kakashi Hatake”. As you’re probably seen in my previous reviews, if it isn’t a huge, game winning effect, I’d just rather pass on it. Though here, that doesn’t necessarily hold true seeing as you are guaranteed damage, which can sever you’re opponent’s combat power. Nothing worse then a Giant Snake as the lead ninja dropping to a 0. :P

Constructed (Sharingan/Fire): 4/5
Constructed (Fire Splashed): 3/5

Limited: 1.5/5 (Sorry, but this card will screw you over unless you pulled multiple copies of Kakashi earlier into the draft, and the chances of that are slim to none.)

Art: 3.5/5 (Still doesn’t match the original here.)

Lightning Blade

Lightning Blade, again? We did this before. And certainly, only one of these cards exist. Now, this is a cool thing about Naruto, Naruto gives previews of upcoming sets. Here is our first one. This is a Starter card in one of the four new Starter decks. It has similar rules of use, but a whole different effect.

Requirement: Kakashi Hatake, Nothing new here.
Target: 1 Ninja, this is different.
Effect: Flip a coin, heads the target is discarded, tails the target recieves 1 damage.

Now, the effect, is a Heads I win, Tails I don't win nearly as much as Heads. It can be an instant kill at a two cost (Fire|Fire), it's only weakness is requirement being Kakashi, otherwise it's lest costly than Fire Ball (with no restriction on target) and can still instantly kill without Zabuza (or instantly kill reguardless WITH Zabuza). This is insanely better than the other one, since it won't suffer a Trigram against you.

Lightning Blade rating - 4/5
Constructed (Kakashi at 3) - 3/5
Limited - Starter card/5
Art - The other one is cooler/5

P.S. Sorry for not responding, but a weak of 'negation is good, run this in X element' would bore me. So I took the week off.

Lightning Blade [J-106]

Man, this card is almost really neat. The effect is down right dirty, and costs the same as 8 Trigram Divination Seal. The effect is better if you manage to get heads and destroy the ninja, but can be just as damaging as a fireball but is cheaper to play. All in all, this card is almost a card I would think about running in a fire or fire/ some other element deck.

But sadly, it requires a specific ninja. Cards that require a specific ninja are horribly inconsistant. I mean, it is usually rough enough when you're trying to run a card that require jounin, or a specific trait like sharingan, and normally you have at least 6 people with that trait or rank in your deck. I would not run it.

contructed: 1/5
sealed: 1/5 (this would be terrible, what if you didn't pull any kakashis?)

Raban

Lightning Blade J-106

Pro:
-Great Effect
-Lower cost than fire ball

Con:
-Requirement

Well, there certainly are many different sides to this card, the first thought is, oh look i can kill a ninja for two fire chakra? SWEET!!!!
Wrong, you not only have to have amazing luck for coin flips, but also Kakashi Hatake as the user. While this actually might not be a problem, having him, two fire chakra, and a perfect card flip might. A good strategy to try might be putting Kakashi behind Zabuza with a hokage, while maybe not as effective as a phoenix flower with Zabuza, i think it has potential. I would love to see this card put in a fire water, but i just don't see it as a big hit.

I like this card nonetheless because it is so dang powerful. It isn't i repeat ISN'T Versatile, and i would run 1, if that. I guess if you're running a bunch of four drop Kakashis this card wouldn't be horrible, but it isn't a staple. So i'll end it, i like this card though, but i think by this point Sasuke should be able to use it, but it doesn't matter.

I say get a starter or two, and this is a bonus, grap a couple and trade a couple.

Constructed: 2/5
Sealed: 1/5 (Worthless)
