Type 2 Deck Report Strike Zone Asheville, NC October 14th Heres a small tourney report from a small tournament. I took a new T2 deck I had been working on and hoped for the best. Things went rather well. My deck revolved around dropping a Desolation Angel with the kicker, hopefully after a rout on the opponents turn. Heres a sampling of the cards in my deck: Desolation Angels (duh), vindicates, Phyrexian Arena, Routs, and Spectral Lynxes. I managed to fight my way to a first place victory. Angel Bomb Deck- 1 x Chromatic Sphere 1 x Necravolver 4 x Duress 4 x Phyrexian Arena 2 x Desolation Angel 4 x Spectral Lynx 1 x Gerrad Capashen 2 x Wrath of God 2 x Rout 2 x Seal of Cleansing 1 x Disenchant 4 x Gerrads Verdict 4 x Vindicate 2 x Soul Link 3 x Death Grasp 3 x Cave of Koilos 10 x Plains 10 x Swamp Sideboard - included such goodies as extra Routs and Disenchants plus a few Circle of Protection for various colors. Match One vs a Green Elf Deck splashed w/ red direct damage, Round One - An early Spectral Lynx really throws a monkey wrench in his elf deck. After he plays two of the elves that lets you put the top 4 cards in your hand if they’re elf cards, I’m outnumbered. I let his creatures deal a good amount of damage to me in hopes he’ll play more elves next turn. He does empty his hand next turn with about 8 elves on the table. When he attacks I play rout. Next turn I play desolation angel with kicker. He concedes Round Two- I manage to get a great opening hand with wraths and phyrexian arena. After that I start drawing all my vidicates. Too bad that and land is all I draw. He’s a bit wiser to my deck and holds off on playing all his elves at once. I wrath and he brings out more elves. He wins. Round Three - Opponent mulligans twice. I have an opening hand with two gerrads verdict. Other then that thats all I have besides land. We both go quite a few turns without land. I get out two phyrexian arenas and we swap his creatures for my wraths and vendicates. I drop the angel bomb again. He doesnt concede in hopes of a meekstone but it never shows up. Thats game. Match 2 vs a Lin Sivvi rebel deck. Round One - Same as my last first match. The Lynx holds off the major attacks while he fills the board with Sivvis and other rebels. Wrath then next turn drop the angel bomb. I win Round two - An insane game - He gets lots of early mana and rebels, I get lots of arenas and wraths. We swap damage back and forth via Death Grasps, eventually he gets his last Death Grasp before I get mine :( Round Three - Wrath vs Sivvis again. A side boarded CoP:White helps me hold him off. I get pretty low on life due to the arenas. I have two turns before my arenas kill me. I draw a Gerrads Verdict, make myself discard two lands (hey, with three arenas in play, I’m drawing enough mana to spare ‘em) and gain six life. It pays off as the next turn I draw an angel bomb and a soul link with enough mana to cast it all. He never recovers after that. Match 4 vs a heavy control deck Round One - I really worried because of the cards I saw this deck play earlier. With meekstones and ensnaring bridges it makes dropping the angel bomb difficult as I only have two disenchants. Within the first few turns the bridges and meekstones hit the table. Too bad I had an opening hand of two lynxes and two death grasps. I’m able to run all over his Pyre Zombies and Death Grasp him to 0. Round Two - I have two duress’s in my opening hand along with two lynxes. I duress two terminates away and play the lynx. He had a few power artifacts to keep me out but the vindicates just kept coming. I eventually wrath then next turn drop the angel bomb. Match 5 vs Red/Black Discard Round One - I have two swamps and lots of good cheap cards. I figure what are the odds I wont draw another land? Pretty darn good. He stomped me with a blazing specter. Round Two - Fixed that mana problem. Start off with four land, a lynx, a vindicate. I draw **8** lands in a row. I death grasp for a while but its too late by then. I dont mind losing to fine tuned deck, but I know I could have beaten this guy if the mana goddess hadnt frowned upon me. Oh well. Match 6 - vs heavy control deck from match 4 Round 1 - The mana goddess that gave me the cold shoulder gives my opponent the cold shoulder this time. he never gets his mana going. Once I notice he wasnt able to lay a land I vindicate what few lands he has out. He never recovers. Round 2- This was one of the best games I’ve ever played. He gets an early meekstone and all I get out is a lynx. The wraths in my hand are collecting dust because I’m the only one with creatures out. We both stall out once I vindicate his red mana producing land. He plays an enchanment that lets him look at a card from my hand and gain life equal to its casting cost. I death grasp him three times but his life keeps going up. I cant empty my hand fast enough because of the arenas. He gains abound 7 life a turn thanks to that enchantment and has three meekstones in play and that gold enchanment that deals two damage to attacking creatures. I attach with a soul linked lynx just to gain the two life the powerstone mine (or whatever its called) enchanment is dealing to the lynx. Make a long story short, this is how it ends - I have 3 lynx in play and two arenas in play. Theres only three cards in my library which means if I dont win next turn I deck myself :( I cast two desolation angels and have gotten rid of the enchanments except for the meekstones. Hes down to 14 life with two 2/1 creatures in play. As it stands if I attack next turn with everything he’ll block two lynx and take 12 and I’ll deck myself. My last three cards I draw are swamp, swamp,...., vindicate. I vindicate his zombie and attack for 14. Heck of a game. I really enjoyed the look on opponents faces when the angel bomb hits the table prior to a rout at the end of there turn. Props to- The guy playing the elf deck. It was original for our playing group and I like original deck ideas. Getting 6 foil cards from the packs I won, including 2 foil rares. The mana goddess, for only screwing me over twice. Slops to- Me, for not remembering names of cards. Thats all for now, thanks for reading. Chad Pojo Junkie
