[mailto:dinga83@yahoo.com] Peasant Format -- Affinity Peasant Format -- Affinity There is something alluring about aggro-control decks, and the following deck is no exception. I wanted to try out the new mechanic: affinity. Suprisingly, there are many little things in the deck that just click together to make it work smoothly. The primary object of the deck is to dump as much artifact into play: lands, creatures, equipment, etc. Then attack with Cranial Plated creatures. Just incase creature onslaughts through both land and air do not work, I do have a backup plan, which is burn. I can either clear the way of any blockers / regenerators or have the burn aimed straight at the opponent. I also have many draws to find what I need and to ensure the beats / burns will keep piling on. Thanks to Isochron Scepter, there will be an infinite supply of burns and draws until the game ends. Without further ado, I present: [Affinity Peasant (a.k.a. IsoCranial Affinity -- Peasant Edition)] - 60 cards Land: 2 x Island 4 x Seat of Synod 4 x Great Furnace 4 x Darksteel Citadel 4 x Lotus Petal Creature: 4 x Ornithopter 4 x Frogmite 4 x Myr Enforcer 2 x Somber Hoverguard 1 x Flametongue Kavu (U) Draw: 2 x Chromatic Sphere 4 x Brainstorm 4 x Thoughtcast 2 x Impulse Utility: 2 x Fire/Ice (U) 4 x Incinerate 2 x Isochron Scepter (U) 3 x Welding Jar 4 x Cranial Plating Blue mana is very very important. It allows me to start searching early for things I need. Therefore, I added two extra Island and opted for Chromatic Sphere (which also functions as draw) instead of Mind Stone. Besides the obvious choice of Frogmite and Myr Enforcer, I added Ornithopter and Somber Hoverguard for some flying beats. If the air goes unchecked, a 6/2 Ornithopter can start pounding on an average of turn three. Each turn after that, it will just "grow" and pound harder and harder. The Flametongue Kavu is an awesome 2 for 1 card, but it will probably be the most expensive card to cast at 4 mana. Nevertheless, the lone Flametongue Kavu makes a very good mid to late game creature. Since the deck is so consistent, Impulse functions as a mini-Demonic Tutor. It can also be placed on Isochrom Scepter for fun. Fire/Ice functions as either removal or draw (tapping); it is never a dead card. Furthermore, it is one of the best spells for Isochron Scepter in ANY format. I chose Incinerate to get rid of regenerators such as River Boa and Twisted Abomination. Feel free to replace it with Lightning Bolt; however, they will all cost two mana once they are imprinted on Isochron Scepter. With 14 draw spells, a low land count, and undercosted fat (with affinity and Cranial Plating), the deck most resembles a Super-Gro deck with burns instead of counters. Like Super-Gro, this deck is a blast to play. Any deck which turns a 0cc 0/2 flyer into a full-grown creature capable of taking down dragons, angels, and stunned opponents deserves some respect. ~Alex e-mail: dinga83@yahoo.com
