Game Markers

Again, no tournament report, since I didn't attend a tournament this weekend.

Short Answers:

-If you block with your last creature with Worship out and you at 1, the damage from the other creatures will still only set your life total to 1. This is because you have a creature in play when the damage is dealt.

-When an effect tells you to add a "mana of the same type" to your mana pool (i.e. Mirari's Wake, Overabundance), and the land produces more than one type of mana, you get one extra mana of any of the types that land produced.

-If a phantom creature is blocked by more than one (non-first-strike) creature, it will only lose one counter when combat damage resolves.

-Prismatic Strands checks what damage it's preventing when the damage resolves. So if you name green, and then your opponent pitches a card to his Mongrel to make it some other color, the Mongrel will damage you.

-A creature is an attacking (or blocking) creature from the time it attacks or blocks until either the time it is removed from combat (think: regeneration or changing controllers) or the combat phase ends.

-Creatures that are removed via Astral Slide return to play untapped.

-With Opposition, Opposition taps the permanents.

-Lands only add mana to a player's mana pool when that player taps them for mana.

-City of Brass does damage to you no matter how it is tapped.

-"Combat Damage"= damage that a creature does as a result of it attacking or blocking (in the combat phase).

Long Answers:

Q: If I have a Necropotence (or any other permanent for that matter) in play can I put it on top of my library to prevent me from drawing? Could I put a Masticore on top to remind to pay the upkeep? I was just at a tournament and one of the other players said that this was deck manipulation and I was just wondering about that.

-Tony

A: No to both questions. The Floor Rules disallow putting any "game markers" on your library (UTR 37), and it has been further ruled that putting a card on your library also violates this rule.

---

Q: Yawgmoth's Agenda and Legacy Weapon are both in play. If Legacy Weapon is destroyed, which ability of the two cards would resolve?

-Tom K.

A: The controller of the Legacy Weapon chooses where it goes (419.8a).

---

Q: My friend controls a Jackal Pup.

A: Jackal Pup {R} Creature -- Hound 2/1 Whenever Jackal Pup is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to you.

---

Q: I attacked with my Wild Mongrel, he blocked with the Jackal Pup. Then I discarded a1 card to make my Wild Mongrel a 3/3. We put the damage on the stack, then I Lightning Bolted the Jackal Pup. Does my friend take 6?

A: No. The Lightning Bolt kills the Jackal Pup, and does 3 to your friend. Then, when combat damage resolves, the Jackal Pup is no longer there, so it doesn't take the damage. Therefore your friend only takes 3.

---

Q: Is there anyway for me to deal 6 damage to him?

-bahamut o.

A: Put a regeneration shield on the Pup somehow. Then it will stick around to take the combat damage.

See you Thursday.
