Pojo's Magic The Gathering
Judge's Corner

Since the recent redesign of Pojo, you may have been wondering, "Judge's Corner? What's that?" This is it.

In this section, I hope to answer all of your rules related questions for the game of Magic: the Gathering. Whether it is card interactions or tournament rules send them here. You can reach me at PojoMagicJudge@hotmail.com.

I'll start off with a few sample questions, given to me recently online:

Q: Say someone plays a Flametongue Kavu, and I Repulse my creature in response, then the Flametongue Kavu shoots itself, right (if there's no other targets for it)?

A: Well, there are two "in responses." First, I'll cover the optimal way, then the other way.

Optimal way:
1. Opponent casts Flametongue Kavu.
2. In response, you cast Repulse on your creature.
3. Repulse resolves, bouncing your creature, and then (assuming no one plays spells in between) Flametongue Kavu resolves, and, seeing no other creatures, has to target itself for 4 damage.

Other way:
1. Opponent casts Flametongue Kavu.
2. You let the Flametongue Kavu resolve.
3. Flametongue Kavu targets your creature.
4. You Repulse your creature now.
5. Creature goes to your hand, and Flametongue misses your creature.

In the second example, after you bounce your creature, you can't have the Flametongue "retarget" itself, as its' target has already been chosen.

Q: If Flametongue Kavu goes on the stack and I have a Questing Phelddagrif in play as the only creature, if I give it protection from red then does the Flametongue Kavu shoot itself when it comes into play?

A: Correct.

Q: Also, if my opponent has two Mogg Flunkies in play as his only creatures, can he attack with them both?

A: Yes. When the Mogg Flunkies attempt to attack, each of them asks, "Is there another creature attacking?" The first Mogg Flunkies sees the second, and the second sees the first, and they both get back an answer of "yes." So they say, "OK, here we go," and attack.

Now it's your turn. Send me your questions (to PojoMagicJudge@hotmail.com), along with a name (doesn't have to be your real name, but I'll put whatever name you give me up along with your question), and I'll put your question in a future column.
