Padeem, Consul of Innovation

This card has a surprising number of applications, for having such seemingly straightforward game text. Despite his stats, he looks like an interesting choice for aggressive strategies in Esper or even Affinity, protecting their entire side of the table for a fair cost and easily drawing cards off the surprisingly-fast Myr Enforcer plays. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets looks as far afield as Vintage, which has historically been the format that had the highest proportion of artifacts per deck, many of which are Moxes and things that get around the fact that he's on the expensive side for that format.

While he himself lacks hexproof, making your artifacts hexproof is a pretty good place to be, and 4 mana for this effect is actually pretty reasonable. It's not the cheapest version of the effect, but it can help you protect an established board.

His second ability is also pretty nice. If you’re using him, you’re apt to have plenty of artifacts, be they Servo-generating Fabricate creatures or other fun trinkets. 1/4 is bulky enough to survive a fair amount of removal (not all of it), but he has a good chance of it coming back around with you getting an extra card. And, as we all know, extra cards are the best.

He's powerful in Limited; I’m not bullish on his chances in Constructed, but a slower control shell with lots of artifacts might find his protection and card draw welcome.
