Everflowing Chalice

There's been a lot of talk about this Chalice, mostly because Mind Stone rotated out when M10 rotated in, and the Esper deck has been without a decent accelerant (other than Etherium Sculptor) and so basically just ceased to exist. The Chalice has yet to really bring it back, and with Alara block's time winding down I fear it may not come back. But Everflowing Chalice really is a powerful card. Not only does it allow for things like a turn three Jace the Mind Sculptor or Bloodbraid Elf, but if you topdeck it late game, you can pour all your mana that turn into it and next turn you're able to hardcast Iona with Cancel backup.

Everflowing Chalice

You don't have to be the perfect knight to hold this cup. With power that flows like wine and only grows with time, the Chalice is perfect for a broad set of applications. The only wrinkles are that you sometimes need colored mana, and it loses out to the popular Vampire Hexmage. But then, nothing this side of Avalon was meant to be perfect.

Magic The Gathering Card of the day: Everflowing Chalice

Welcome back readers today’s card of the day is Everflowing Chalice an interesting artifact that can accelerate your mana the more mana you pump into it. Featuring multikicker this card has been seeing play in control decks featuring white and blue, it acts as an accelerant the more you pump into it. In standard this card is seeing heavy play and will most likely continue to do as it can be played in a few combo decks in extended as well as blue/white control decks. In extended this card has not seen much play as of now but in the future I could see it as an accelerant for control decks. In casual and multiplayer this card can be sickening combine with doubling season and other mana accelerants it can turn out sick things such as the new Eldrazi cards you can have some beasts in the early turns. In limited it helps boost your noncolored mana if you have expensive spells I would go for it otherwise the lack of color could hurt. Overall this card fills a niche perfectly and will continue to see play.

Michael "Maikeruu" Pierno Today's card of the day is Everflowing Chalice which is a relatively decent acceleration at two mana and can potentially add more value when played later in the game.  Older cards like Coretapper, Power Conduit or Energy Chamber are specifically designed to work with charge counters and can quickly boost the Chalice up to endgame levels.  Any kind of X mana cost, the upcoming Eldrazi, and artifact decks can all gain quite a bit with this as support.

For Limited being colorless makes it easy to play, but the mana produced is fairly limited in application.  Fairly solid if played early to help get four or higher mana cost creatures into play, but less useful as the game proceeds.  In Booster this should be drafted if you have higher cost spells with little available acceleration, especially if not playing Green.  With Sealed most decks can make some use of it, at least early, and it should probably be included unless you are running a low mana curve.
