This guy is amazing in Limited.  A bomb you want if you're playing black.
Has everything that makes a 5 out of 5.  In Constructed, he has a very
narrow focus, and because he's a legend you can't overplay him.  I'm sure
decks will be built around his mechanic though, and I expect him to be a 3-4
by season's end.

This guys got a big 'ol bullseye painted on him.  If he isn't dealt with
immediately, the recursion alone will be overwhelming in any limited
environment.  As with all recursion... chainer will love to abuse 187 and
haste affects.  While not quite as good in constructed due to the 3
defense... more than likely his abusive ability will be put to use.

Chainer, Limited Master.  That should be his name - really.  This guy is simply retarded.  He's black, has a sizeable butt, and as a side note, summons up the demons...er....Nightmares of hell and unleashes them all over an unsuspecting opponent.  Even better, if your dead fattie doesn't get the job done, maybe theirs will.  This guy is retarded, retarded, retarded.  I could set a record for the use of the word retarded in a single column, but let's just leave it at retarded.

In constructed...eh.  He's not all that and a bag of chips.  There would be few decks that could properly utilize him, and still be able to take the loss of life he imposes on you.  I don't wanna go sticking my foot in mouth early and say he's constructed crap, but I just don't see THAT much use for a 6CC Legend in Constructed.

I don't care for Chainer.  I read him, and he seems way over priced to be
really good.  Still, as I told a good friend from the message board (I'm
keeping his name a secret because I don't know if he wants me to use it or
not), it, "He's good, he looks broken, but isn't really.... but I guarantee
someone will break him beyond holy hell."

And I'll stand by my statement, and, while he thinks I should give Chainer a
4, I'll give it a 3, because he's good, but I don't like him, and I don't
like the Wrath of God effect there, or paying three life along with 3 black
for his ability.  He's only good in a heavy black deck, which is
unfortunate.

In limited, he is excellent.  He is recursion for all those non token beasts
that you draft, and what a better way to tick your opponent off than to
return a Wild Mongrel or something like that back to play.  I'd say that
this guy will go most likely between 1st to 6th pick in draft, depending on
who's playing black, but even if the draft is 8 man, it won't get past 6th
because the odds of the cards being that good that late are next to nill.  I
give this a 5 in limited.  A must play, and usually a must pick.

As neat as he may seem, Chainer simply costs too much.  If his activation were at a reasonable level, it would be forgivable, but BBB and 3 life is too high.  He's far to slow and risky for any constructed deck, especially since killing this 3/3 will take all the guys he reanimated with him.

I think that Chainer is going to be a bomb in Limited,
just like Cabal Patriarch.  He can turn the game
around entirely as soon as he hits play.  Also, since
Torment is the "Black Set", Chainer is bound to get a
great supporting cast to help him pummel people.  In
Constructed, he could go into a Recursion deck to help
serve as a backup in case the first few tries of
Reanimate or Exhume don't quite work out.  The problem
lies in the fact that he's fairly susceptible to
removal either in Sligh or anything with white for
Swords, but I'm sure something can be worked out.

Chainer is really solid in both constructed and limited. The 5 mana cost is a little high but if you can keep him on the board you could wind up with Chainer and another huge creature like Vampiric dragon for a total mana cost of 8. The 3 toughness helps protect him from a lot of the current burn and think of the fun you can have reanimating your opponent's dead Crosis and smacking their domes with it.
Limited: 4
Constructed: 3

First of all, thank God this guy is a legend.  I would hate to play against people that have multiples of these in their deck.  Also, the fact that he takes 3 life as part of his activation is fair.  I might consider playing this guy myself.  The idea of taking some one's Spritimonger to work for the dark side is pretty neat.  But the requirement if so much black mana (not including the life loss) is pretty steep.  You have to have a ton of black mana available to make use of this guy, but I think it is still worth it.

In limited, I think this card will be a superstar.  Not a whole lot to say here that isn't obvious.  This guy can bust of stalemates, get you creatures when your deck runs dry, etc.  Definitely worth it, assuming you are entrenched in black mana.

Constructed: 2.8
Limited: 4.3
