Simply a 1/1 for 2U means "I am a bad card." But you say "It has a cool special ability." I say "How many times have you ever gotten to use a Spark Mage's ability ?" Answer "Almost never usually only on turn 2 when I go first and my opponent has no 1 drops."  The Godfather then says "What about turns 4 and up ?" The reply "I don't know since I play cards like this garbage I don't usually stay alive long after turn 4." Now we know why !

Rating
Constructed- less than zero
Limited- .05 and only if you are the worst drafter of all time or got a sealed deck with only 5 creatures.
Old School- This card is better than Sorrow's Path by a little bit.

This guy is interesting. If it weren't so darn easy to stop this guy, his ability would be darn interesting. That said, I can see something using this guy if a lot of control or some sort of evasion ability could be given to him. Sounds complicated, though.

In Limited, he's fairly much useless. At 3cc, a 1/1 should never be getting through for damage. It doesn't have any other good uses, and thus sits the match out.

So here I was sorting cards for my decks.  Then I was sorting cards for sale.  The I was sorting cards for trade.  Then I figured I would sort some more.

I made some piles of stuff for new players.  I made some piles to give away as tournament prizes.  I even made some piles to give away to charity.

The remaining stack was utterly useless cards.

I think I remember seeing Balshan Beguiler on top of that stack.

This card is horrible. I can see it being alright with Psionic Gift but usually combos that involve 1/1 creatures and a creature enchantment usually don't do very well. I would not draft this guy and would always not include him the 'playable stack'. In constructed he's absolutely horrible. I'll give him a 1 because at least he can kill your opponent in 20 turns.

This card is a nice combo with a trick that makes it unblockable. By itself, it's one crappy card. This would be better if it said "dealt damage" because then you could slap a Pinging enchantment on it and be in business.

A pretty brutal ability... assuming you can keep blockers off the table. Easier said than done regardless of the emvironment your playing the Beguiler in. Not only that but this 1/1 is gonna be really difficult to keep alive.

While overall pure crap, I'd love to see someone build a fun Millstone/Control type deck with this.

It's like Coral Fighters, only so much worse! At 3 mana this guy had better have some sort of evasion ability, especially with threshold and various abilities that use cards in the graveyard as a resource hanging around. Oh, wait, he doesn't have evasion! You might be able to get him to do something funny, if that's what you're going for, but if you're trying to win he's a 1.1.

I really don't think that a 1/1 for three mana is optimal in limited. I'd rather cast some sort of Grey Ogre or another than this guy. In Constructed, the same thing applies since there are better creatures for three mana. Although I'm sure you could find a way to build a deck around it, it's just not worth the effort to me since you could just use Millstone instead.
