STRENGTHS:

Strong range, Running Shot, 4 damage and Impervious all make this new version of Ultimate Iron Man a great first-strike figure, especially with his Stealth-killing Ultimates team ability. His 10 AV spikes to 11 on his 2nd click (though he's down to Invulnerability then) and he gains his "Full Power"

Special Power, which works like B/C/F at range at the cost of taking 2 damage himself. Given the new tournament rules that count only KO points for wins, this power may be worth using on occasion. It's too bad it doesn't work with the Energy Explosion all over his front-dial.

Mid-dial, he switches to Charge and Super Strength to supplement his damage ability. End-dial, he's an Earthbound Outwitter who can potentially use Regeneration back to his first Charge click.

WEAKNESSES:

"Full Power" is just too much of a gamble for it to cost him so much damage every time...especially since he's already dealing a solid 3 damage anyway. His defense numbers from click 3 on are pretty mediocre, ending at a truly sad 12. Earthbound is rarely welcome on a dial.

CARDS?

ARMOR PIERCING is always good with Energy Explosion.

OPPORTUNIST is a great fit for his fighting clicks to help his rolls hit, especially if you've tried out Full Power and roll a 6 on damage.

IN SUM:

A strong Ultimate Iron Man figure that's a modest upgrade over the same character from the Ultimates set. His Scientist keyword gives him extra life beyond the sealed tournaments he held dominion over last summer. But he's no gamebreaker.

Today's review is Iron Man from Avengers

Iron Man week continues with the remake of Ultimate Iron Man.

He is a Unique Common (kind of a paradox), 154 points, 10 range 1 target, 8 clicks, a flier, Ults team

Full Power – Basically it is a ranged version of BCF that deals Iron Man 2 damage after

Speed:  Love it, lots of running shot and charge…earthbound is ….yeah

Attack:  Not bad, not great either, all the power combinations for great

Defense:  Standard numbers that get low at the end.  Lots of damage reducers.  You might get lucky with Regen

Damage:  Not great, outwit at the end is angering, and the power doesn’t seem the gamble of 2 clicks to have a 50% chance of doing better than is printed

The Good:  Lots of movement

      10 range

       Lots of damage reducers

      Good power combinations

      Ultimates team is great

The Bad:   Numbers all around aren’t that great

     Special power is too much of a gamble

     Outwit at end

     Earthbound

     EE with 1 target

Feats:   Armor piercing works with the EE, but I think it isn’t worth it with only one target.  Nanobots puts him at least back onto a click of running shot. 

Overall:    Well, here is a tough call.  He has a lot of stuff I love (good movement, workable numbers, ults team) but a lot I hate (low end numbers and bad power).  The problem with a  154 point piece is it needs to be the backbone of your team…and I just don’t think this is the guy to do it with.  In higher point games he makes a great secondary attacker/harasser.  I do love the sculpt though.
