Today's review is Hulk from Xplosion

 

Just in time for Pojo’s summer break, we take a little trip back in time to review what many people to be the most pure version of hulk…the Xplosion Unique

 

He is Unique, 201 points, 0 range, 10 clicks of life, AE dial, and no team

Speed:   Full dial of L/C gets him where he needs to go, but Move and Shoot beats L/C or Phasing any day

Attack:   High like it should be, Super Strength is nothing great without Charge or HSS

Defense:  Average numbers, but full dials of damage reduction means it takes a lot to take him down


Damage:  Pretty good, I think it should be just a bit higher

 
The Good:  High attack

      Long dial with damage reducers

      High Damage

      No activation click

     

The Bad:  Super Strength with no move and shoot

                Not mobile

                Needs support to get the most out of him


Feats:  Not too much works here, but if your spending these kinds of points, lets make him a 1-man army.  First off, use Shellhead to keep his def high.  His stats never crap out, so pushing isn’t much of a problem.  Also, Rip it up can always keep him smashing away with an object.  Fortitude is another good bet to make sure you get the most out of those damage reducers.


Overall:  Alright, this guy is a monster plain and simple.  Of course, he has his problems.  A TK piece is necessary, because if you just have him trying to move out with his low movement numbers, he will be hit halfway past his dial before he even ties someone up.  A Lockjaw can even help, because he can get carried out even faster, then be able to attack the turn after lockjaw transporter attacks a different character.  He needs a lot of feat help to really get the most out of him, and, in reality, 9 times out of 10 you are going to use the Ultimates version over him.  Ult Hulk is cheaper, has a higher attack, does more damage, and has a team ability that can be copied by the rest of the team.  Still, Savage Hulk ain’t bad, just isn’t good enough to really head a team on his own.

 Speed  -- A full dial of Leap/Climb is helpful but what would be more helpful? Charge. The numbers aren't really the kind that will shoot you across the map either.

 Attack  -- 9 is average and it only grows from there. EIGHT consectutive clicks of double-digit values works for me. Super Strength is cool.

 Defense  -- I'm letting the no-Impervious slide seeing as Savage Hulk was made in 2003. Back then Invuln was all Marvel characters possessed. And who really cares if there's no Impervious when Hulk contains a seemingly endless line of Invulnerability.

 Damage  -- I'll just say the damage standards have scorched much higher since the Xplosion set, that's for sure. Too may 3's for my taste but 5 is still incredible.

 Sculpt  -- Hulk is the largest sculpt I have seen that is not a giant. Besides STRIPE of course.

 Feat Candidates
-/-  I wouldn't go crazy here. Fortitude ensures no giant hits. Hulk is a figure to push so go with Shellhead; his defense may shoot to a 19 sometimes.

~ On my birthday, in 2003, I opened a booster pack to see the most expensive figure in Marvel at the time. Since then I've used him once a few months later in a 2000 point game and he sat around while the rest of my team annihilated. Basically I've never got full potential out of him. But why? No movement. You need a transporter or telekinesis to flash him into battle. Try him once or twice just for fun; or if you get sick of Ultimates Hulk.

Xplosion Hulk receives a 2.5/5.
