Hawkeye

Keywords: Avengers, Great Lakes Avengers, Thunderbolts, West Coast Avengers
Range: 8 x 1

DIAL:

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figures_dials.asp?dialid=11435&unitid=13245&universeid=4

ANALYSIS:
Starting with Running Shot and Energy
Shield/Deflection ('cause he's an acrobat, according to his card), Hawkeye is best used exclusively as a ranged piece. It's underscored by his Sharpshooter special power, which adds +2 to his 9 Attack Value on ranged actions only. By his middial, he really needs the boost as his AV sinks to 7 and lower and his defense makes way for low numbers and Smoke Arrow, which is Smoke Cloud, which is nearly useless for him and not likely to help your team much more than him just making a regular attack would. Maybe you'd want to push to his last two clicks for Ranged Combat Expert, where he still has the benefit of Sharpshooter and can crack defensive powers like Invulnerability.

FEATS?
For restricted games, ALPHA FLIGHT is the go-to card to bump his already impressive 11 AV at range to 12 against your chosen target(s). NANOBOTS is only OK on him since his mobility is pretty limited. Better to spend points on HEIGHTENED REFLEXES to help against those pesky move+attackers trying to get the first shot on him. For unrestricted games, THUNDERBOLTS is the one card to always use. It's actually thematic on him.

ETC.
No Incapacitate for his trick arrows?

IN SUM:
Neither the weak no-trick Clobberin' Time version nor the tactical-nuke-toting Ultimates member, let alone the hoverbike gunship that was the Fantastic Forces vet, this is finally a true representation of Hawkeye, priced just right as a 2nd attacker.

RATING: 4 of 5.

Special Power – Attack – Sharpshooter – Give Hawkeye a power action to make a ranged attack.  Modify his attack by +2 for the attack

Speed: 3 of running shot is always welcome

Attack:  Lower than we are used to with Hawkeye, but the power can help with that

Defense: 18 from range to start, but low numbers all around

Damage:  3 is enough to hurt someone, RCE can help

The Good:  Lots of movement

      8 range

      Avenger

      Attack can be high

The Bad:  I don’t think Sharpshooter works with RS or RCE

Defense will not hold up for long

                Only one target?

Feats:  I really wouldn’t throw any on him, because I think he is enough points as it is, besides Alpha Flight to make his attack higher at no cost.  Protected and Nanobots help too, but that is for you to decide.  T-bolts in Unrestricted is a must.

Overall:  Lets go back in time to see what made hawkeye what he was back in the day.  The Clobberin Time version was nothing special.  The ultimates gave us huge attack, big range, 3 targets, and anti stealth.  The FF version gave…huge attack…10 range 3 targets…and Transporter along with whatever team he wanted thanks to Thunderbolts.  This guy is about as blah as you can get.  He has good movement, but his defense is nothing to write home about, his damage is passable at best, and his power only helps if he stands still.  He is by no means a bad piece…he is just average.  Average is never a bad thing…it is just nothing great.  In a competitive game…why not pay the 9 more points for V Bullseye?

Constructed/Unrestricted:    2.5 / 5

Sealed/Draft:  3 / 5

Overall:  2.5 / 5

“Heroclix….they’re cool, addictive, and available….the things practically sell themselves.”

Special Power (Attack): SHARPSHOOTER -- Give Hawkeye a power action to make a ranged combat attack. Modify his attack value by +2 for the attack.

Special Power (Defense): SMOKE ARROW -- Hawkeye can use Smoke fCloud.

SPEED -- Decent for 56 points. At least Running Shot is front loaded. Numbers get scratchy near the end.

ATTACK -- It looks awful at first glance but read the special power. 11 attack TWICE! Hawkeye will rarely be fighting Close Combat so that shouldn't matter.

DEFENSE -- A possible 18 from range.. wow. Smoke Cloud is nearly pointless.

DAMAGE -- I wish he kept 3 for longer. Still okay though.

SCULPT -- Hawkeye's skirt always looks funny.

Feat Candidates
~ Nanobots. Keep his cost low.
~ Alpha Flight to make his attack ever greater.

~~ If people know me, my "pet peeve" with HeroClix is horrible attack. My die rolls are never amazing and I need all the help I can get. At first I looked at Hawkeye and saw that disgusting 6 attack and almost didn't bother reading the special power. Then I did and he turned into one of my favorites from the Avengers set. He's very well-rounded but if Sharpshooter were ever Outwitted, Hawkeye is wanted prey.

Rating: 3.75/5.
